Total cost: about $6 (for anti-seize and silicon)
Changing the plugs is really quite simple. Banana's pics helped, and doing this on a 98-00 is a breeze. Just have to remove some air box thing on the passenger to get to the plugs, and that's just two bolts, three hoses, removing one side of it from the air intake, and then tilting it out of the way. I love that I didn't have to fool with plug wires. It took me about 1.6 hours as the book states, and I was being **** and cleaning off all the parts.
Thanks very much for everyone's input. You saved me $125.

and your welcome
But honestly, I have no idea why the most computer systems, even that of Lexus, consider the 98 a part of the 95-97 generation. If you look at the pics in the service manual, parts, etc, you will see that.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I ordered Silver Emblems to replace my Gold emblems, and Darrell told his computer showed that I needed a silver antenna bezel, but the 98's DONT have rear antenna’s anymore like the 95-97’s. He informed me that’s what came up in the system, that explains why Carson sold you these wires.
If you go to rockauto.com you will discover that they list ignition wires for 98’s, and coils for 99’s. I wish Lexus would step in and alleviate this problem.
So us 98 owners have to look out for that, sometimes if your talking to someone who doesn’t know what their doing in your local dealership, just ask for a 99’s part.
The only parts that might be different in a 99 are:
- Daytime running lights
- Blower motor (98’s were fixed under warranty).
- Instrumental cluster (They added a BLANK screen in the green LCD as one of the toggles).
- Electronic break distribution
and maybe some VERY VERY small minute differences in parts that arent even visiable.
As you can see, these are all very minor differences, which we would not usually have to worry about.
Sorry for the long post, it was just of an annoyance to me, and I had to share.

I'm going to make a note of that. In Auto Tech at our school we work on alot of junkers that are 1980s early 90s. The newest vehicle we have is a 2001 Stratus and our teacher wont let us touch that. So I'm used to just pulling up the wires and unscrewing the plug.
