Default 98-00 Factory mud flaps available?

Hey gang,

Having just added our 00 Platinum edition LS....I had a question on the factory mud flaps. Has anyone ordered these? Feedback?

We had them on our 92LS and 94LS were quite happy but, I have not seen them on the 98-00.

I just saw a 98-00 LS with mud flaps for the first time lasst week. They looked very nice and like factory. They could not mave fit the car any better or looked any better. If I lived in an area where these would keep my car substantially cleaner, then I would buy them instantly.

Now even though they look very good I would not put them on my car. Somehow they broke the clean lines of the LS. Hard to explain.

ToyLexmods - we meet again...

My local dealer parts department manager told me last year that mudflaps for LS cars were removed from the U.S. parts catalog quite some time ago. I purchased a set for my 00 LS Plat. from Metro Lexus Toyota,
625 Frances Ave, Victoria, BC phone (250) 386-3516 shortly after I bought my 00 LS Plat. in 2003. I think I was told that the same mudflaps fit 95-00 LS400's. They were hideously expensive (around $400) for what you get and probably a lot more expensive now that the U.S. dollar has slid a lot against the Canadian dollar since last year. The people at Meto are very nice and have an export license to ship to to the U.S.

Victoria BC is a beautiful city and well worth the drive/ferry ride from Oregon. We've taken cars on the ferry from Anacortes to Vancouver Island numerous times - its easy and not all that expensive. The mudflaps do not come wth instructions but it is fairly easy to figure out how to install them. I think I remember that Installing them required removing the rear wheels, a bit of drilling through the plastic rear bumper cover and that it took me about 2 hours to install the entire set of four.

If you can't get mudflaps from a Canadian dealer, my understanding from reading the U.K. Lexus specs for 00, is that mudflaps were standard on all U.K. LS400's.

The mudflaps for the 2000 LS are not nearly as large and do not provide as much protection as the OEM set I bought at Park Lane Lexus in London in 1990. I think Park Lane is now operating under a new name.

But because they are smaller, the 00 LS mudflaps add no noticable noise. I remember reading that adding mudflaps to the 90 LS added one decibel of noise - quite a lot - and I certainly noticed the increased noise.

Good luck with your project.

I just realized that I have a photo of my 00 LS with its mudflaps buried on a website. This will allow you to see how tiny the 00 LS mudflaps are compared to the ones for the early LS.

The photo was taken by a professional photographer friend so the photo is high res - better have broadband to view this:

Correction to my last post: The one decibel noise increase caused by mudflaps on the 90 LS was at 70 mph.

One more ...

Over the weekend I found the invoice for the mudflaps -- I paid U.S. $88.03 each last year which included shipping to Kansas.

The website for Metro in Victoria is http://www.discountlexusparts.com/ and you can get a price quote there. I dealt with "Paul".

Jim,

Thank you for all your help. By chance do you have the part numbers for the mud flaps? I have some contacts here and if I had the pn's I could see if these can be ordered in the US.

I will give the folks at Metro a call tomorrow.

Update,

Nice guys at Metro Lexus in Canada. Too bad the conversion is so crappy right now...the price worked out to be near 100.00 for each mudflap.

Well, called on my Toyota contacts for parts and presto! Coming today at 72.00 a pop. Still a big chunk at 288 but not anywhere near 400.

You and I have the exact same car, except mine is a 99. I really would like to change my wheels/rims. Yours look real nice. Can you share how much they cost ? and are who makes them ? that is where did you get them ?. I am looking for a 5-spoke polished alloy 16" size that will fit the RWD LS. Any suggestions?

This is my #1 preference that is on a fellow CL member's car (leeladisky), but hard pressed to find this wheel anywhere...

Dave,

I'll go ahead and post the part numbers from my invoice from Metro for the four mudflaps should anybody else what them:
76621-59035
76622-59035
76625-59035
76626-59035
I don't know which part number is for which wheel position nor do I know if the part numbers are the same in the U.S. It seems a little odd that the part numbers on not consequtive. Your $72 US price sounds like a great price these days.

Rich,

The wheels on my 00 LS in the photo are 16" x 7 1/2"Mille Miglia "Bello" wheels from http://www.tirerack.com
They were $124 each in a Blizzak snow tire package in 2003 but were $139 each when I checked today. They are of good quality except that the plastic centers seem fragile and one of mine does not fit quite flush with the the hub opening. The wheel centers are a little larger than most and I have not been able to find sturdier centers that fit the opening. Regardless, I like these wheels better than the chrome Platinum Series (same as 2001 LS430) wheels that came on the car and which I use with the summer tires. I'd prefer to use the Bellos in the summer and the chrome wheels in the winter but chrome wheels would not last long on salty midwest winter roads.

Tire Rack has lots of other nice wheels including one or two from Kazera that looks more like the wheels in your photo. Most cost a quite a bit more though.

Best regards all,

Jim

Thanks, I will double check these mud flap numbers tomorrow.

As for wheels, my choices are as follows....
#1 2005 LS430 sport 18/7.5 inch spoked version
#2 2004 LS430 sport 17/7.5 inch spoked version
