Default remote programme

Hi all

I have just joined, could anyone help with the following problem on my 1995 LS400.

I lost the key and remote, however had a spare, the spare remote will not operate and the car is currently immobilised.

I have gone thru the programming steps provided on the site re: unlock/lock door 5 times & repeat, however when I try to programme the remote it does not work.

Any advice or comment would be greatly welcomed.

"immobilised" Are you saying that you can not use your spare key to start and run your car?

When I bought my 00 LS last year it came with only one master key and one valet key. A dealer service rep told me that I was fortunate that the car came with a master key because a functioning master key is required to initialize the security chip (separate from the wireless remote function) in a new master key.

The rep told me that, if I had not had the one master key, it would have been necessary to also replace a wireless remote system component in the car.

I do not know if your 95 works like my 00 but your "unlock/lock door 5 times" programming procedure sounds similar to what is described in my 00 LS repair manual.

You might try contacting your nearest Lexus service center. (Yours isn't an Japanese market import, is it?)

Hi Jim

thanks for the reply, no my LS 400 is a UK car, I am not sure whether I have the master key or if that was the one that was lost.

I spoke to my local dealer who advised disconnecting battery and reconnecting with remote button pressed down, however this did not seem to work either.

Alan,

By "master key" I was referring to the key with the in-built wireless lock/unlock buttons and transponder chip as opposed to the Sub (valet) key which includes a transponder chip but no buttons. Since my experience with LS400's jumps from 90 to 00, I do not know if 95 keys or keys for U.K. cars have a transponder chip.

On the 98-00 U.S. spec LS, a new master or sub key can not be programmed or used to start the car unless there is an existing functioning master or sub key which can be used to program the new key.

Your U.K. LS could be quite different from U.S. models other than your car having its steering wheel on the "correct" side. A co-worker in Portsmouth (way south of you) and I used to compare our first LS400's of similar vintage and they were amazingly different.

Where is Scotland anyway? Joking -- we've been there. My neighbor four doors down is from Edinburgh and is a distributor for Scottish & Newcastle. Yes, I occasionally get free beer.

Sorry I could not help.

Alan,

I have a 95 LS400 as well and have never been able to get the proper code for re-program of the remote from the forum over the past few years. I too have tried the sequence you've mentioned, but without success. Unless someone with a 95 who has successfully re-programed the romote steps forward, I think we are left with the dealer route. Directions from owners of different year cars have not proved correct.

Please post if you find a solution.
