Since my car was a hand me down and my dad bought the car used. I was wondering how many remotes are we suppose to get with the car? We have one but I think Lexus gives you 2 when u purchase the car.

Default 4 keys

you were soppose to have two master keys with remotes, one valet key with no remote that only opens the doors and starts the car and one credit card key.

Default valet key?

speaking of the valet key? are there any other differences besides having no remote/limited opening uses, like speed limiting, etc?

i don't know about the speed limiting, but i do know that i am going to have a valet key made for my car. i wanted another tremote, but if you buy a remote, you have to replace both of them, because your first will not work. then the both caost about $500. i only have one remote and one master key for copying, sp i figure ill get a valet which only runs $60

The remotes are not to expensive, but all you really need is a spare key, you can lock and unlock your doors with it so why pay $$$ for a new one?

check the first chapter of your owners manual. it should show and describe all the keys that you're soppose to have.

Yah i checked it and it describes the keys I am suppose to have but what i want to know is how many master keys and remote transmitter I am suppose to recieve with my purchase from a private party. I recieved only one transmitter and master key, and was wondering If i am suppose to have a second one. I would call the party, but they wont be in town till next week so Im asking on this forum in case they lie or in my case, wont have to bother calling them.

ohh.....you wanna know what a private party is required to give you when you buy the car.
they are not actually required to give you a specified number of keys, none the less master keys. since it was thier car, it would've been legal to even give you just a single copy of a valet key with no remote.
you should've discussed the keys before delivery. now actually, you're just out of luck. you can ask them however if they have any other keys for your car, but they are not required to give them to you.

sorry dood.

Yah true, but they are the original owner. So they purchased it and my question is could they be holding or lost another master key because I know ppl that purchased lexuses after 1999 recieved 2 masters so would 1997 be da same?

chances are they just lost them or something. if you are feeling unsafe that they have your keys, just got get a new set. $500 and you will have 2 new remotes, the old ones will not work anymore and you will have your 2wo
