Default Interchangeable rear armrest

Can someone definitively find out whether the rear seat armrest from my 1990 LS400 can be interchanged with one from the 1998-2000 models? I'd like to have cup holders for the rear passengers, and the 1998-2000 models were the ones to start incorporating them into the rear armrest. Take into consideration the mounting hardware as well the size demensions. Thanks.

If there's no possibility that this can work, can someone suggest any aftermarket cupholder options?

I wonder if a U.K. salvage yard could supply you with a rear armrest for an early LS. The LS sold in the U.K. in the early 90's had two cup holders under a flip off lid. Unfortuately it usually also had switches for rear seat heaters that were never available on the U.S. spec LS400. You might try doing an Internet search or asking a member of on one of the U.K. Lexus forums for an opinion or help.

Actually the 95 + have the cup holders for the rear passengers in the center fold down armrests.

Couldn't you install cup holders to the vents of the rear A/C--the aftermarket ones that hang on. seems much easier unless you have commuters that ride everyday.

Since I replied six years ago, I'll give you more ideas.

If I wanted rear seat cup holders for an older Lexus, I might buy a couple of the add-on ones that have been available for decades for Mercedes. They mount on the doors and fold when not in use -- photos are attached. There are really pretty nice and not all that expensive. Check eBay.

I'm even finding golf cart cup holders -- maybe one could be screwed into the transmission hump of your car ... photos attached.

Use your imagination.

The Mercedes one looks okay. Ebay ten bucks for two. Maybe the way to go. Just wonder how well it holds and how big a cup fits. Maybe. Thanks for the info.
