Any Lexus techs on board here?
I just picked up a '95 LS400 yesterday and the check engine light came on as I was driving home. Figures, huh? Anyway, I start researching how to pull the codes and find on several sites that only '96 and above have the OBD ll ports and that I can use the jumper wire on my '95. I get under the dash and low and behold, I've got a port with a cover marker OBD ll and an additional round, white plastic port marked DIAGNOSTIC. Okay, I say. I must have an OBD ll car. But when I pulled the cap from the black port, there are only a few terminals that are occupied. The build date of the car was 5/95.
Any ideas as to what I have? How do I evalute what the issue causing the check engine light is?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

By any chance did you stop and get gas on the way home? If you did, check the gas cap to make sure its on tight. If it isn't, that is the most likely cause.

No pit stops where taken on the way home. Good suggestion on the gas cap Dave, but it didn't seem to help.

Probably beating a dead horse, but I hear from Lexus tech guys that this is about 50% of the CEL lights they see at the dealership.
