Default Towing Package?

I've seen a couple of 1st Gen LS400's with a "Towing Package". Was this factory? And what did it consist of? Thanks alot!! ~R

I think the "tow package" was a dealer installed option and that it was not yet available when I bought an LS in early 1990. I remember going several months without being able to use my utility trailer to haul gardening supplies and that a receiver type hitch was available from the dealer by the summer. I assume the "package" must have included the wiring for trailer lights. I ended up buying a Draw-Tite hitch instead simply because it was less expensive and very similar in design. Fourteen years later, the hitch is still on the car which I sold to a friend a few months ago. A neat thing about the earlier LS's was that the hitch could be almost completely hidden between the bumper and the spare tire well and a notch could be cut into the snap-on trim under the bumper for the hitch to go through to plug into the receiver. Not so on the later LS's where there is no space between the spare tire well and the bumper which causes the hitch to have to be mounted below the spare tire well and to be much more obvious.

Interesting info Jim, I did not know about that. Now the next question is, does someone have a pic of a LS with the dealer tow package? It sounds pretty stealth to me, I would like to see what it looks like.
