Has anyone seen the optional tow hitch that
the lexus.com website talks about?

My dealer hasn't seen one yet.

I'm assuming that this can be added later by the dealer.

I will occaisionally want to tow a 5000# boat a short
distance and I wouldn't mind having the extra 1500#
capacity that this is supposed to give you.

The stock receiver hitch doesn't look all that heavy
duty.

 

I don't think the factory tow package adds anything but a and harness, but you cna usually just to any U-Haul and have a hitch added for $150-200. The dealer can also install the "Lexus" one as well. Like I said before my only concern would be if there is an integrated wiring harness connector to attatch to the trailer.

 

The GX I picked up on Dec 19th had the optional hitch installed ($430 option). It looks really good and integrates perfectly with the rear bumper. The only thing you see from the rear is a black rubber Lexus "plug" that is inserted into the receiver.

I don't think that is the "optional hitch" that the original poster was asking about. Your integrated hitch can tow 5000 lbs. The "optional" hitch can increase towing capacity to 6500 lbs.
