Default Botched ECU Harness Jerryrigging

Hi yall, recently bought a 96 LS400 and have been working on getting it back to its former glory. First I want to preface my electrical knowledge is limited to some soldering experience on an Xbox and some car radio installation so apologies in advance if I have a hard time understanding anything.

One of the things I noticed immediately were a grey wire that hooked on to the battery and went through the firewall, after fishing out the ECU for the capacitor check I saw the harness spliced and crimped onto a new connector with a fuse block that (forgive me if I’m mistaken) doesn’t look OEM. I attached some pictures of what I’m talking about. I know for sure it’s related to the A/C because if I remove the wires from the battery, the ac and fans become non functional and the compressor makes a loud noise.

I know sometimes it’s better to leave things working, especially when electrical; if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and all. However, I thought I’d ask if anybody knew of a relatively easy way to wire everything back through stock harness?

That is not OEM, the wiring and relay is beefy so something high currently maybe the compressor clutch. Where does the white connector go any idea? Never better to leave a hack like that intact IMO return the car to stock.

The white connector was hanging loose when I removed it and was zip tied to the far left of the space underneath the glove box. I could probably try to check if there are any unaccounted for modules with no plug when I get back to the house later. Any tips for returning the harness back to stock?

The last photo shows the blower motor and it's power line. The yellow arrow indicates the line which is originally connected to the blower motor controller. I imagine that the controller was broken and the former owner have done some modification. The blower motor controller is discontinued already and a new one is not available any more now, I must add. The thread below may help you some.

Thanks for the insight, that makes quite a lot of sense considering before I disconnected the wires from the battery the ac fan speed would either be off or at 100% with no in between.

I took a look into that thread you mentioned and what I have gathered is I can swap the blower box and motor to the 98+ version plug and play? I also saw a mention of needing to get the 98+ Recirculation Motor as well I’m assuming still plug and play. If not I could probably take a crack at rewiring since I’ll seemingly have to anyways (in which any and all tips would be greatly appreciated).
