Default 1990-1992 question

If you own one of these years, you can check. When I get in the car ('91 LS), and start the engine, after a few seconds my seat belt warning light (located in tachometer circle) goes off, even though I haven't fastened my seat belt yet... does this happen to you too? isn't it supposed to go off the moment you've fastened seat belt? Could someone check this please?
thanks

It's a feature.
Toyota figures that owners of LS400 should be able to make up their own mind whether to wear a seatbelt or not. In case we choose not to, we are not molested by annoying sounds or lights, like in most other cars these days.

Ten plus years ago auto makers were not on the same safety kick they are on now. I have a 92 LS and yes, it goes out after 5 seconds. I believe that it is just on a timer and does not know or care if you have your seatbelt on.

It just goes off after a few seconds on mine too, belt or no belt. I don't think the seat belt receptacle has a sensor in it. I would think that most cars are on a timer. It would be pretty costly to put sensors in the seat belts .
