Information purpose thread, tensioner assembly brand
The continental tensioner assembly for my 1994 ls400 off rock auto is a litens brands. I SUSPECT the gates is the same, not confirmed. The “continental” aka litens tensioner assembly looked the EXACT same as my old original Toyota tensioner assembly, down to the casting irregularities, and the made in Canada stamp. The pulley that came with the new tensioner was the exact same pulley I bought from the Lexus dealer, with the same nsk bearing part number!! Cost me 150 bucks. This is a thread for future owners to learn this valuable info as the dealer part is discontinued. Get the continental, possibly the gates is the same case. Hell even the pulley on the Lexus website says litens on it.
When it comes to the timing components/water pump I have opted to source from the dealer. I can't say whether or not the Aisin brand is exactly the same as the stuff from the dealer.
It could be similar to the KYB strut issue. KYB aftermarket struts are not the same as the ones from the dealer even though they are both made by KYB.

I bought my 430 in 2017. I replaced the TB on my 400 in Jan of 2016 using the Aisin kit. I remember at the time being concerned the water pump looked so thin as if it were stamped instead of cast aluminum. I didn't want to wait for new parts to arrive so I installed it with no issues. Fast forward a few years later and a different car I chose a different route ordering the parts individually instead of relying on a kit. The water pump I chose was genuine Toyota/Lexus, both pulleys used KOYO bearings, and IIRC a tensioner made by NTN.
Sourcing the parts individually totaled approx. $250 at the time compared to the 2016 kit price of $175 but I felt much better using a Toyota water pump.
Just my 1.5 cents...
