Default '95 LS 400 Steering rack

I need to replace the steering rack in my LS 400 and wonder if anyone has experience with racks from greatautoparts on eBay, or other US suppliers with whom they have had good experience. I am looking for a remanufactured rack, or an NOS rack, not a Chinese reproduction.

I would be leery about buying car parts off ebay. Regardless of the TV commercials. There are better options but it's probably OK. Don't for get to add in the $160 core charge and the cost to ship the core back.

Best I can tell, these rebuilders are in the US (avoid Cardone). It's about $100 more but when the budget rack starts leaking, who you gonna call?

If you Google search the part number in the ebay listing, Amazon comes up. States that it's rebuilt in the USA but being currently unavailable doesn't exude confidence.

Amazon Amazon

I'm going to have to do this pretty soon as well. Let us know how it turns out.

Somebody here (I'm sorry to have forgotten who it was) recommended these guys, and they appear to have what you want. Don't know if it's in stock or not, but it might be worth a go.

This is unfortunately, the reality of owning these old cars- remanufactured parts are getting hard to come by. But a good brand would be DetroitAxle as well as Maval. But if I were you, I would look for local automotive specialists/hydraulic and power steering or axle rebuilders. If you were in Los Angeles, California in the USA- you could still find many of these businesses that can completely rebuild or have one at the ready of these racks for you. I sought out a local rebuilder and was able to use theirs for a few years. (Being too low on my LS400 killed it eventually haha ). I eventually ended up with a low-mileage, used rack from one of the many salvage online resellers on eBay.

Default LS 400 steering rack

I have replaced the original rack with one from Detroit Axle which I purchased on eBay. The Lexus dealer installed it as none of the local reputable garages would install a part they didn't provide. The tech at Lexus said it installed easily and looks like a well prepared unit. Car drives just fine now. They provided a prepaid return FedEx label for the old unit, and there was no core charge although the warranty isn't activated until they receive the cold unit. Quite pleased with their product and customer service.
