Default 96 Toyota Celsior side mirror dipping in reverse

Hi all,

I just want to make sure that my dipping passenger door mirror is working correctly when reversing.

I have to select reverse and then switch the mirror adjusting switch to the right hand side.

The passenger (lhs) mirror then dips down.

It doesn't automatically dip down if I select reverse but have the mirror switch to the right already.

It will do if I've already activated it, but as soon as I drive off and then select reverse again after stopping, it won't dip unless i switch the mirror switch.

Switching the mirror switch to the left doesn't do anything.
Which is odd, because I'd have thought you would switch the mirror switch to the side you want to dip.

Is this how it should be?

Thanks,
Connor.

I don't know about the '96 but this is how it works on a '98.

Ahh great, thanks for that.

That's how mine works, although I have to place the master switch to the right, instead of the left haha.

Was that from a Toyota celsior manual?

I don't think so since Celsior's manual is all written in Japanese language.

I have one but it's not here in my computer room and I have to find it. As long as I remember, the right side mirror (driver's side) is only controlled after July 1997 production. A 96 Celsior is only OK to control the left side mirror (passenger side) only when the mirror switch is set to left.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure why on mine the left side mirror only dips down when the mirror switch is set to right.

It doesn't do anything if I set the mirror switch to left. Which seems odd.

Yes, it's odd that you need to set the switch to right. It should switch to left. The logic is reversed indeed. I don't know why so but don't you have any other problem related to the mirror control?
Can you control the mirror's angle as you are intended? I mean you can control the left mirror only when you set the switch to left and the right mirror, switch to right.

Yes all the mirror adjustments work fine with the switch in the correct place and so does everything else.
I'm not sure what would be the cause of the logic being reversed for the dipping function.
