I installed a HID kit from a maxima and inside of the the light housing is a long metal sheild with a hole in the middle. I asume that it is a heat sheild. should I leave it there or should i remove it. and how easy is it to adjust the head light beam and how do i do it with out taking the whole light housing out again.
Jersey1, I think it's probably best to leave the shield in place. It's actually not a heat shield, but an important part of the headlight optics. If you remove it, you'll probably have a lot of angry drivers flicking their high beams at you. Many late model cars equipped with halogen reflector headlamps have a shield (next time you're in a parking lot, note how many of the halogen bulbs are actually visible in the headlamp housing). Given that true HID puts out so much more light, it's pretty crucial for these to have shields as well. If you take yours out, you'll probably also change the beam pattern, and probably not for the better...course, if you're planning on going off-road...
