I have a question that applies to the first generation ES, SC, and the current LX470. (BTW, I posted this on the LX board already, but haven't received a response, yet)
Has anyone else noticed that other cars out there with projector-beam lamps (e.g. Yukon Denali, Toyota Celica, Mazda Miata and even the Hyundai Tiburon) tend to vary in color by the angle you view them? With a Yukon Denali coming towards you, the color of the lamps change from a Halogen white/yellow to a Xenon looking blue tint followed by other colors (I'm assuming this is the prism like effect projectors have.) Why don't the projectors on the LX470 give off the same kind of effect? Any ideas? Is it just the brand of projector lamps Toyota uses?
actually i have to agree with him. I have seen Mercedes ML with halogen Projectors and they do change blue from far away but onces they get nears its yellow and for sure its halogens. I also have seen a few Audi or VW with same setup and forsure its Halogen.
So does anyone know the reason why? I'm dying to know why the projectors on our LX doesn't do the same thing. It's just clearly halogen, no matter what angle you view it Oh well...
the reason why is because on the inner side of Mercedes and audi projector lens its a roungh surface it is not smooth like your LX. also the curvature of the shield also plays a part of it. if you bend the shield towards the bulb it should make it change more colors.
Jmai is correct. I've seen the same phenomenon on Audi and VW beetle. The curvature of the projector on these halogen-equipped vehicles creates a prizm effect(not Geo,lol!)
Well, this just goes to show "The Passionate Pursuit of Perfection" Thanks for all of the replies. It's kinda interesting to know that the change of color just has to due with the curvature of the projector. Thanks again for everything!
