Re: how to turn on fog lights while headlights are off?

for example..i want to turn on the fog lights while the headlights on off....
you gotta install a switch and route the fogs to it instead of through the headlights and such. no easy, but not too hard either. someone did it, perhaps hi98gs. try a search perhaps, might find it
it depends on how you wanna turn on the fogs. when you turn on the headlight, you click your switch twice, first time to turn on the parking lights, second time to turn on headlight/foglights. the fog lights doesn't turn on until second click coz' it sense the second clicks together with headlight so that's why it works the way it is.
but if you can bypass second switch on the fogs and connect it to the first click, you will be able to turn on the fogs when you do one click and turn on the parking lights.
i know that can be done, at least on acura. on my tl-s, i just need to unplug the fog wires and wire it with another fuse (10 mins job) and it will turn on with my parking lights instead of headlight. so when i do one click, parking lights and fogs on, second time headlight on.
i am not 100% sure how that should be done on the lexus (gs, sc, etc...) coz' fuse values might be different but the wiring methodology should work.
but keep in mind, in a lot of states it's illegal to turn on fogs when headlight is not on

I think this was posted already...you gotta do a search b/c i think it was said that it could be done but not too sure....i think that some people were skeptical about the whole process.
I know that I've done it on other cars of mine by just splicing the wires and presto!! But then again this is a Lexus.

yeah i know what you talking about, by theory it will work and i have seen it working on other cars. but on the lexus (for example GS) what's the secret and concerns i don't know. i never had the time to look into it coz' every time i turn on my light, everything is on anyway, so..
well not sure i would agree on this one. in fact a lot of european luxury cars allow that coz' it's legal there. for example if you get a bimmer you should be (at lesat in the prev gen) able to turn on fogs and parking lights but not headlight. i kinda like the look sometimes
Originally posted by JAC JZS umm, did you read the link I posted He goes into great detail on how it is done.
no i read it, but more detailed stuff like which exact fuse, how the new switch is wired, etc... is still missing. i have been waiting for more pics since then actually

I don't think he posted the wiring diagram because of negative comments that were made by some members about his setup. Wow you've been waiting for a while... maybe you should PM him.
What I want to know is which wire is it that triggers the fog light relay that is in the headlamp switch. Where can I find it with ease? If I can locate this wire and determine if it goes negative or ground when the stock fog switch is turned on it would be very easy to wire in your own 12v relay and make this mod work with the factory switch. I have also attempted to modify the stock relay without success, I don't know why my mod did not work but works on the IS !!!!
