I have a 97 SC400 and use PIAA super plasma's for the 9006's and H3 fog lights, and they are the same color as HID's,.. just not as intense, but brighter and clearer than stock.

Quick facts...

All DOT approved 9006 bulbs are no brighter than about 1000lumens... HID's are about 3200 lumens or so... (this excludes the high wattage 9006 bulbs, which may be brighter, but you'll need to rewire to get enough current to them)

HID's are typically a temp of about 4100k... the closest you're gonna get with an incandescent bulb is a Sylvania Silverstar which is about 4000k... side by side (HID and SliverStar), they are pretty close to identcal in color.

So you can get the same color, but not the same brightness as HIDs.

To get additional brightness, I would recommend doing a 9005 swap which will get you closer to about 1700lumens. I've done such a swap and its a noticeable improvement in lightening - but doing a side-by-side with an HID set up, its still not as bright.

Here's how to do a 9006/9005 swap out:

Good luck.

look at the light on the ground in front of my car,... that's pretty damn white, and the footprint on the ground is awesome, blueish on the very outsides and white in the field of view,...

I pulled up next to an IS300 and out color was identical,... his was a little brighter.... ryan,.. just type in yahoo PIAA Super plasma and there should be this one site that has all aftermarket lights in a comparision cost table,.... I paid right at $90 for the 9006's and $75 for the fogs.

My thoughts are this,... I bought a whole sleu of other lights that were "higher" wattage and they kept either burning out prematurely in a matter of months or melting the harness and shortin' out.... no problems with the piaa's.

if i find the link...i'll post it later... i'm takin' a dj break right now and if i get a moment will find it for ya.

yup, around 90 bucks a pair sounds right

i have the acura tl type s. which bulb you talking about? the headlight is hid (d2r) and it's just the same as the one used in most lexus with stock hid. the high beam on the tl is 9005, and the fogs on 02+ tl is 9006. but they are nothing spectecular (very yellow)

yes you can use the fog light bulbs from 02 or 03 tl, but then it's not really white, in fact very yellow compare to any stock hid (that's why i have change my fogs on the tl-s to 6000k hid too)

umm..... i only know about the tl and cl. the tl fogs will fit. the others you can check would be the headlight of rsx and the fogs of the rl.

but none of those lights will be whiter/brighter than those from lexus though

and hey, do i get free bulbs too?
