A guy at work is asking me to change a front turn signal on his girlfriends 2000 3 series BMW..
Just wondering if there's any tricks or is this a dealer only change..
I know I'm off 'Lexus' on this..I posted on bmwplanet, but no responses.

I say replace the Bimmer light with a Lexus. Their (lexus') owners seem to be a friendlier bunch a people. If it is not behind a flap. Trying jacking the car up, support it with jackstands and look up from the bottom. I maybe thinking of an older bmw, but I thought the turn signal was in the bumper.

yes that's what i thought too. my friend has a 01 323 and i changed the headlight bulb for her. i recall everything should be accessible from inside the hood but i am not 100% sure. the pessenger side is a lot easier coz' there are tons of spaces around, but the driver side is a paint in the rear. still it's doable.
in any case, the worst part would be you turn the steering wheel say to the far right, then it will give you a lot of room on the driver side fornt wheel well. there should be couple of screws holding down the flaps inside, just loosen up so you can pull it backward, and that should give you all the access you need.
and for the side marker, nop you dn't need to jack up the car. believe it or not, the side marker is just sitting there. use a flat head screwdriver and a cloth and you can easier pop it out and change the bulb inside
