if you want the best purple white hue to your headlights, Stage II [6000k )color temperature)] is what you need.....Stock (Stage I) burns at approx. 4100k - 4300k..... if you want a really purple color there are 8000k bulbs available also....but as you increase the color temperature , the light output decreases ....optimal light output is arguably @ 4100k (stock)

Most reliable 6000k bulb would be the Philips Ultinon bulbs @ around 250-280/pair; and that can be purchased at suvlights.com or hids4less.com

the main difference b/w D2R and D2S is the bulb design...D2Rs are designed for reflective housings such as ours, where as the D2Ss are designed for the projector type housings found in the bimmers, audis, and S2000s....

if you want the flicker effect of the headlights on the bmws, audis and S2000s, changing to 6000k will not give you that effect...in essence you are only changing the color of light output ...

try doing a search ....this topic has been discussed before....

hope this helps...j

pretty much answered a lot of questions, here's my take

d2r is for reflective housing (is300) and d2s is for projective housing (bimmer, audi, s2k...). the flicker of blue and purple you see from those bimmers and audi is coz' of the lens design on those projective housing and these lights will flicker from the side. you only see these lights when you look at those hid from an angle. from straight on they are just white like the hid on lexus.

the hid you have is 4100k, the normal one. it's yellow compared to 6000k but it's probably the best in terms of light output. i have 6000k in all my cars and it's good, look a lot better with a hue of blue, kinda like bimmer and audi except it stays that way all the time. going to 8000k imho is stupid coz' it wil be so dim it's not useful. plus you are giving another reason to get pulled coz' it's so blue.

d2s bulbs it's all clear glass, but d2r bulbs there is a metal piece on one side of the bulb (opposite to that of the ground wire). that's to make sure no light come out of that area so when the bulb is in the car all light will be reflected to the ground, not the sky.

you can fit d2s bulb in your reflective housing of the is300, but you need to make a little mod. d2r and d2s bulbs have pretty much the same base except one little ****. they are placed differently. you can use dremel to cut out little part of the plastic base of the d2s and it will fit in the housing just fine. it will give you a bit more light output but don't expect night and day difference
