Default Slim Ballast vs Non-slim

Besides the size difference, does anyone know the difference between the two? Can they be used interchangeably between different bulbs and usages eg, low beam and as fogs.

Also, with the slim, what's the little side unit do?

Also about placement, is the little side unit safe to be bundle next tot he main unit cos i'll be stuffing both near the foglights (IS).

Slim isn't really slim. That little box is the ignitor, an extra component that hangs attached whereas on normal ballasts it is inside.

It's really just an option for an installation issue. Whether the engine bay is really tight, or for motorcycles. I recommend you just get a standard 35w ballast set.

For fogs, i recon slim is best cos it's lighter and can fit in smaller places.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I went with the slim 3K kit.

I have not taken a look to see if there are any supports or other things to secure it too.

Will the double sided tape be all i need to secure it inside the bumper?

if you can install them behind the crash bar then some tape and zip ties would work.

something like this

slim ballasts are digital, and big ballasts are analog (magnets used). slim doesn't necessarily use less power, they are still using the same power, 35 or 55w. because slim is digital, they take very little to warm the hid up, roughly 5 seconds, while big ballasts take about 30 seconds. I am using a big ballast, and i don't have any complaints. it depends on application, and the light output you want.
