SC300 headlight bulbs
What bulbs should I use for a 1995 SC300? 9005's won't fit the connectors and 9006's won't fit the housings. The bulbs in there right now look to be 9005's with the tabs broken off. The guy at the parts counter said not to run 9005's because they are higher wattage and will fry my wiring.

All 1st gen SC models use 9006 in low beam, 9005 in high beam. In regards to the respective wattages, our 9006's use 55 watts and 9005's use 65 watts.
Just from personal experience, I don't suggest buying the Sylvania Xtra-Vision or whatever. Even though they're at the typical 55 watts that 9006s run on, the Toyota/Lexus 51-watt halogens were actually noticeably brighter. I had to remove the single Sylvania bulb and replace it with my factory bulb
Not sure why 9006's wont fit the housing.. I would probably say there's something in the way.

SC300/400 Headlight Bulb Fitment Problems
I may know why certain bulbs will not fit the housing, Check the diameter of the o-ring boss at the base of the glass envelope with calipers or a micrometer. vs. the stock bulbs. If the replacement bulb's boss diameter is larger they won't fit in the bore in the housing (difference of about 2 mm, too small to see the difference with the naked eye). The o-rings themselves may also have a different cross section diameter. Are there two different bulb numbers that look superficially similar, e.g. same base type but different fine dimensions for lamps of different wattage? I received some xenon HID lamps that has a similar problem with fitting, I couldn't get a reply from the online retailer so I removed the o-ring, wrapped #220 abrasive paper around the boss and rotated it until the diameter was reduced to fit and also swapped the o-ring with the one from the OEM lamp. Here is a link to a post I made on the subject:
