Default getting inside of the headlights

Hey has anyone opened up there headlights, mine are pretty dirty inside and i wanted to upen them and wet sand them. ive herd alot of different ways of doing it but never actually talked to anyone who has done it. i herd if you heat up the seal around the light you could be able to seperate them. ive also herd of numerous ways of doing this (putting it in the oven, heat gun, etc.), but has anyone ever tried it on a sc300. and when putting them back togather would i need knew seals or can i just heat them back up agian.
thanx

Are you sure that the inside is dirty? I would try wet sanding and cleaning up the outside of them first before messing with taking them apart. I'm not sure what the process is with the SC but for the GS lights you need to remove the front bumper and heat the housing assembly to remove the covers.

good luck.

ya, the inside def. needs to be done i did the outside already came out good, but you can actualy see in the inside where in needs to be cleaned and im thinking about painting the back. I know that headlights need to be heated to take them apart, but im not sure which is the best method, actually i have no idea. do i just stick them in the oven at a couple hundred degrees F. untill they pull apart, then put them back in the oven until i can stick them back togather? sounds risky dont want to damage them, but im willing to put the time and effort.

Where do you live, if you're local, i can help. This topic has been COVERED a million times already. I have personally taken mine apart like 5 to 8 times, and have used the oven method every time.

Ahhh i c, somewhat far from Jax....nvm, it's easy to do, just search in the SC300/400 section, and you will find a plethora of information.

that's cool appreciate the help though, from what ive read it seems like i can just stick them in the oven at 250deg. for about 15 and that would loosen the seal and i should be able seperate them, and the same in reverse to seal them? but my plan is to wet sand both sides of the lenses and shot them with a clear coat on both sides... how will the clear react to the heat, should be ok right?

Best idea, bake it at 200 Deg for about 10 min, not 250 for 15 min. Try using Meguires Plastx first on both sides to avoid sanding, because when you sand, you can remove the stock UV coating. if its still foggy then use 2000 Grit or higher sand paper and lightly sand it, then polish. GL and have fun. And i have no idea how clear works with the oven, whether it would melt off the lens or not.

You may have to keep putting the headlights back in the oven though. Took me roughly 6-10 trips to the oven to finish the job. The original glue/sealent resets rather quickly.
