Default High beam problems

Wonder if anyone has had this problem.

My high beam isnt turning on at all.
I tried changing teh bulbs.
I checked all the fuses.
Checked all the connections and then some and STILL they dont work.

Any ideas what it could be?

If they work during the daytime then maybe its the switch

Does the high beam indicator illuminate on the instrument cluster?

Has anyone disturbed the DRL (daytime running lamps) and it's fuse. Mine is in a separate fuse box under the hood.

The DRL's won't light when the emergency brake is engaged at the time of engine starting. They switch on when the brake is released.

I sense a confusion [auto vs DRL].

I would suggest switching out of "auto" on the light switch stalk.

If you are "working on them", be aware that DRL ('98 did not have it) brings the two bulbs in series via the relays and electrical configuration is non standard [+12v source -> switch -> bulb -> GND]

What year is your car? I can get you the wiring diagram to help you trace the fault.

I tried that already as well.
I put it just on the light on position and it still didnt turn on.
It seems like it wants to do it because I left the Fog lights on and it turns off the fogs when I switch to high beam.

The day time running lamps work perfectly.

And the emergency brake is NOT engaged either.

My car is a 2000 GS.

I switched the bulbs so I dont think its the bulbs.

Its 9005 on the highbeams and 9006 on the regular right?

The fog lights should turn off, when you switch the hugh beams on. [this implies your high beam switch is OK]

Sice DRL work that means the high beam bulbs are OK.

If wiring has not been messed with, the relay for DRL ... portion of the relay that forms the normal hi-beam on is suspect.

Where is the relay?
Is it on the drivers side and has 2 plugs into it?

Any pictures would help salimshah.
Thanks.

Sorry I have a 98 and that was not equipped with DRL and hence I cant shoot pictures and post.

Fortunately you should be able to find writups and pictures on how to disable DRL.

bananaGS's site would be a good place to start from.

Ummm.... I fail to see how this is going to help since I am NOT electronically inclined in wiring diagrams. LOL..

I see arrows going everywhere. I can barely see what they are each called.

Can anyone confirm that the relay for the headlights is on the drivers side under the hood. Mine looks like it may be cracked.
