Hi CL, I need your help in detrmining why my 8500K 9006 bulbs are not working? I cant figure out why? Do I need a new relay? or do 8500K only work with HID ballasts and not on a stock application (2000 GS300)

Any pointers?

First of all welcome to Clublexus. Second, I would use this as a sign and sell the kit or swap out those bulbs IMO. I've posted many times why anything over 6000K isn't reliable and safe and will not give performance of HID lights seen on many high end cars that flicker all sorts of color in the violet -blue -whte range. It comes from the HID projectors not the bulbs. Many people have been fooled by sellers of HID kits.

As long as you're aware and happy with your selection than that's fine. But I was duped once into the HID kit scene and have made it my mission to educate others. Please visit www.hidplanet.com/forums for more details on the wonderful world of HID retrofitting and feel free to search here to see the many GS Lexus car's I've alcutally created proper HID retrofit headlamps for so you too can see how your car can now be exactly the same like S2000 Honda or Audi A4.

As for the actual HID kit you own, if you want to use it for now, check ALL your wire connections. Check how its plugged in. Check its own HID relay. Check the bulb connections. And finally test another set of HID 9006 rebased bulbs if you have them since you would need a different bulb holder to plug them into the OEM xenon ones (D2R for your car). Keep us posted

 

also, maybe check to make sure the polarity is right. if it's 9006, i bet there are two wires coming out of the hid bulb that you connect to the ballast right? make sure they are the same polarity (+ and -) as the old one

 

Thanks guys. I dont have an HID setup. What I need to find out is if I can replace my stock bulbs with ones that are 9006 and operate at a rate of 8500K. The bulbs I am trying our are made by EuroDezigns. May it be that I need a bigger relay??

 

man i am confused, you don't have hid and you want to put in 8500k hid bulbs?! i am lost

 

You cant use HID bulbs without an HID ballast.

for the 8500k, Are you talking about Real HID bulbs or are you talking about those "Hyper White" Junk bulbs

mikal, unfortunately I am talking about those hyper white junk bulbs.
I don't have the real thing installed. Wanted to try "switch out" options first to get a feel.
The bulbs i got claim to be 8500K. I had some 4000K previously and worked fine. I just want to see if I can move up to something more whiter/bluer.

Any ideas????

Claim is the key word here. Not a good way to get the feel, because they are nothing like the real stuff. If I were you, Id get a 6000K REAL HID kit and call it a day.

 

The reason it may NOT work is probably you already fried/melted your socket/wires already with them fake/junk 4000K bulbs.

Standard wattage is 55 watts for the stock halogen low beams...if you used anything over that wattage...for a considerable amount of time....you asking for trouble.

Check the wattage printed on the 4000K and 8500K halogen bulbs....what does it say?

Inspect the socket and wires....if damaged...you need to replace.
