I see what they did. All I need is the ballast, I have the harness and new bulbs, not the ones pictured. I wonder if there is some place I can purchase the black connector that you pictured corkycal and swithch that out with mine?
You can purchase the connectors and then attach them using simple tools from a local Radio Shack or electric store. They sell the D2 connectors on Ebay and over on HIDplanet.com. They should be pretty cheap (< 50 for sure)
I'm not sure if Henry has them but you can check with him too. Keep us posted! We wanna see those beam shots lol!!!!
Mike, Im not sure what to look for on HIDplanet. Do you know of any of them that are for sale now? I will also try to contact henry to see if he can help me.
I was offered to buy this for a great price. It is from an E39 bmw but the seller said it is in perfect working condition. I know the E39 is older and just wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with this ballast or know if it is good or not?
Should be good. Its actually got the plug you need. As long as they're not broken than you're fine.
All ballasts pretty much do the same thing. One brand won't be brighter vs. another or give more advantage unless they're the special higher wattage ballasts but those are custom made and will burn out your bulbs a little quicker and in this case arent' required
Those ballasts are actually ones that Henry has and I figure he is a pretty stand up go so I dont have any worries ordering from him. Any thoughts on what brand they are? So they will work fine with my system?
I think this will work but the member said I will have to do some soldering and other stuff and I was wondering if anyone knew what exactly needs to be done or is there a writeup about this somewhere? This seems like the best way to go as the price is only $35 and I am very sure that my ballasts are still in good working condition. Thanks for the help
There are several ways you can handle this on a tight budget. You can solder (a bit time consuming) or use wire crimp and heatshrinking tape or just good electric tape over the connection where you would crimp the two wires. Just get the pieces you see here and you're good to go as that taco bell commercial says
you need:
1 of these to cut the old connector off 2-3 inches below where the terminal is
So Mike, there are only two wires that I would need to solder togethor? Are they color coded or how will I know which one goes where? Ijust dont want to get this and do it and do it wrong and ruin some bulbs or something more expensive

There should be two wires under the rubber wire cover you're seeing that connects to the ballast plug. What you'd do is match them up with the ones you'll be using and crimp them together and you'd be all set. As long as the wires are paired correctly you'll be set. If you have a Radio Shack down there any one of the guys can show you how to do it if you bring your ballast and plug into the store. Every time I go they're always willing to help (at least up here)
Thanks Mike, yeah I have a few radio shacks here. I wasnt sure if there were more than two wires under the sheath.
So I should cut the plug where the connection was made for my HID kit and then splice the wires from the D2S plug right there? I think this is a better solutions than spend $160+ for new ballasts.

Yup. My sheath was like a stuffer rubber/cloth material that slides forward but I've got PIAA ballasts and I'm not sure if its the same as those Hella ones you've got
All in all the whole thing should be less than about 10-15 bucks
