Default HID problem

I just put in my HID's in my 95 SC400. I turned them on and they looked great but as i left my driveway and went on the road i noticed they don't aim forward but instead are aiming toward the sides. I went to make sure they are in tight and they are...does anyone have any idea on what the problem can be? They don't go to much to the sides but when im driving they don't help much at all because most of the road is still black...Please HELP!!

Your headlights need to be realigned. There are two screws to align the headlights. If they are off now, they were already off before.

Also, when you put in rebased HID bulbs into the stock SC300 projectors, they will not light as great as a projector and lens designed for HID. There is a tab that should be cut if you are sticking with the stock projector assemblies.

It's either what Mike said, or you've got the wrong bulbs in there. Do a side by side comparison of an OEM halogen bulb to the HID bulb. Line up the bases next to each other and see if the filaments from both bulbs match up.

Take a picture of your headlights aimed at a wall so we can get a better idea of what your talking about.

Try and park about 20ft from a garage door or white wall and take a picture of the beam pattern on that wall. This will be able to help us see what your seeing.

read my other post first,.... Don't cut anything until you determine what is wrong. I didn't have to cut anything when I installed HIDs in my 95 SC400 or my 97 SC300.

He might be refering to the tab inside the projector at the top, that is a glair tab and will mess up your cut-off line if you saw it off. You shouldn't mess with that tab. I have brand new OEM headlight assemblies and they create and awesome beam pattern.

Again, take pictures so we can see what your seeing. Take some pictures of your bulbs also.

this is what my beam looks like after I replaced my headlights with new ones.

Before you installed the HID kit, did you have a normal beam pattern with the OEM setup? What brand is your HID kit? Is it an E-bay kit?

If you've tried re-aiming your headlights without any positive results, I'm willing to bet that the HID bulbs weren't properly rebased, thus the capsule of the HID bulb won't line up with the filament of the OEM halogen bulb when placed side by side.

I seem to have the same problem with my 5500ks that I installed in my 05 GX470 projectors and the center of the road seems to be dim whereas the side walk and hedges are lit better,
not bright but better. I installed the same kit on a friends 03 4runner, reflector housing and
his car lights up the entire road as you would expect HIDs to. while the lights were on, I unplugged the bulb from the housing and rotated as well as moving in and out. I can get a brighter beam at times, but it seems to be a hot spot and not balanced throughout.
will a misaligned filament matter with projectors? I also noticed that the hid bulb is longer than
the stock halogen, does that matter?

I'll try to post pictures when I get home and maybe one of you experts out there can help me diagnois.

I think this link will clearify some things.

http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8494

the way I'm reading this, it appears that my HID bulbs are not a good fit for the stock halogen projectors and require moving the bulb further out or in depending on the bulb/housing. The trick is how will I do this on my GX projectors with my rebased bulbs?
