Ok! I give up. I replaced the High Beams with Xenon Blue Halogen Bulbs from, don't laugh, JCWhitney at $10 a bulb and they look good, but I can't get to the FRONT parking lights to change them. It look like you have to take the whole front light unit out or the fender liner. I haven't got the service manual yet but it's now on my list, but if anyone has done this or knows how, I would really apreaciate the help. The blue bulbs are 194B and they will replace the stock 168 5watt,its the little light on the top outside area in the front light housing.

Are you talking about the reverse light at the rear? If you are, I believe you need to take the whole unit out. It is easy to do that but time consuming. I took 3 hrs to replace my tail’s light with 01’ tail’s light without manual. Good luck.

If you are referring to reverse lights, it's pretty simple. Just remove the carpeted panel that is on the back of the trunk. It is attached by 3-4 "pop in" screws. There is no need to remove the whole light unit. It took me less than 5 minutes.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, I have editted my post to state that it is the front lights that I need/want to change. Those are great looking wheels on your RX. What size tires/wheels are they and did you need to use spaces in the back to clear the struts?

I too am looking to do the same on my 2001 RX but my bulbs are 7440 's. They are behind the small projector-like lens on the very outside of the headlamp assembly. And yes, it does look like we have to remove the entire light assembly. I have a call into Lexus parts to see if they have a picture or micro-fiche breakdown of the unit. Changing the rear back-ups to 27w 7440 PIIA's was definitely worth the 12.00 for the pair.

Francis,

Great job on replacement of the tail lights. How expensive are these bulbs and where did you purchase them from. I wanted to do the same for my 2000.

I'm in the process of getting aluminum scuff plates which say "Lexus" in the 2001, that go on the side of the doors. The cost was $139 from irontoad.com. I was told they will fit the 2000.

The bulbs come with the tail lights as a set. I bought the tail lights from the dealer about $600. I am sure you can get them somewhere else cheaper.

They are Alba blitz 18x8.5 with 255/55 18 tires from Todd’s RX. He said they fit perfectly without any spacer. I love those wheels too.

I have 5 sets (total of 10 bulbs) of these 9006 Xenon Gas Charged HID Super Plasma Hyper White BULBS. These will fit the low beam as well as the foglamps on the RX 300. I am williing to sell these for $10/pair with buyer paying S/H of $5.

Any buyers out there. I would of put this on ebay, but don't feel comfortable putting by credit card info, even though it's a secure site.

LexRX Thanks for the pics, this may help me. I will see if I can get to the bottom bolt, as that seems to be the one I could not see. the broken tab in the pic is the one that connects to the grill. The 7440s are the turn signal and backup lights, the 168s are the little lights that are in the front top outside that come on when you move the light switch to the first position from off.
