Default HID retrofit on RX300

Hi,

I have a set of Philips ballasts and D2R bulbs (already rebased to fit 9006 housing) that I want to use in my 2001 RX300. However, when I plug the power connector from the ballast to the low beam harness, the HID light does not turn on. It works fine by connecting directly to the battery. Could someone please tell me what I 'm missing here?

Thanks,

Got pics?

Maybe there's NOT enuff juice from the lowbeam socket to powerup the igniter in the ballast. Im thinkin you may be missing something in your kit.

I got a Philips kit that connects directly to the battery and the lowbeam socket acts as the off and on switch to the ballast igniter.

Thanks for the reply. The Philips ballasts are LVQ-312 with built-in igniter. I had used this kit previously with an older LS400 with excellent result. May be, the RX300 low beam socket has a current limitation that only works with the Halogen bulb type. Are there any aftermarket parts available to overcome this?

The OEM relay is made by Denso. Does anyone know a place to get the upgrade relay and harness? I contacted a local Lexus dealer and they only have the same OEM parts.

Thanks,

Maybe your polarity is messed up....i remember the lowbeam socket and the connector from the ballast switches polarity on my kit....which blew my fuses. Check that.

Go to www.hidplanet.com and grab a harness from there and you'll be all set

It turned out that the polarity markings on the low beam harness are incorrect ("+" is actually ground and "-" is 12V). I did not experience this problem before with any OEM harness, but it should have been verified easily with a multimeter. Oh well, I got my HID working now. Thanks for all of your responses.
