Default McCulloch vs. Hella HID kit

I'm looking to buy one of them through ebay and wondering which one would be the better choice. Anybody has any suggestion? Thanks.

I really can't afford Phillip right now, so I guess I'll go with the Hella. . Thanks for the responses.

I've had McCulloch's for close to 2.5 years.

1 ballast died once within the 1st 6 months which was replaced under warranty since then no problems. (SC400)

another set of McCulloch's installed on a 99 GSX eclipse 2 years no problems

a third set of McCulloch's installed on a 2000 volvo S70 2 years no problems

a 4th set of McCulloch's installed on a 2000 subaru impreza 2 years, 1 defective ballast replaced within the 1st week. replaced under warranty, no problems

5th set of McCulloch's installed on 96 GSX eclipse 2 years no problems

6th set of McCulloch's installed on a 2001 VW passat 2 years no problems.

I got a good deal on them so I ordered a whole bunch for my friends and I. We've bee satisfied with them but it does appear that the failure rate is higher than phillips or hella but I've had no trouble getting them to send me a new ballast before i had to send them the broken one.

Japtat918,
I am in the market for an HID system as well , and cannot really pull for a Philips right now, but have been looking at McCulloch on eBay as well. I was wondering where you have found an afternmarket kit by Hella, can you please let me know as I am interested. I want that color of the 6000K Philips, I wonder if 6000K McCulloch can get me that?

I suppose I could pull for a Philips system, but I want to know what is so great about the system that it is marked up some $170-200 more than the rest. Is it the quality/durability of the system/ballasts etc.. , or is the color output of the Philips bulbs? That is another question I have, comparing to the Bosh/McCulloch 6000K bulb to the Philips Ultinon 6000K bulb, are the color outputs noticeably different and if so , how much ???
Thanks,
Paul

the quality is better, and imho the bulbs being so much richer in color and reliability that's the great thing.

I had the McCulloch kit before, never had any problems with the ballasts or starters. The problem is that you don't know if the jackass you're buying it from is putting cheap bulbs in the box or not.

I've bought 2 McCulloch kits before, the first had a great white/purple kelvin temp with good output (got rid of the car and the kit), the last one I got was junk, the bulbs were this nasty aqua/blue look with not much better output than stock halogens in my opinion.

Now I've decided to just pay the $ and get a complete retrofit of the real deal, because the SC projectors provide to much glare, and i prefer not to be another ******* on the road like that.
