Originally posted by lexusk8 Even though the wattage from both bulbs is the same, most here say that the Silverstars last just as long, if not longer than the stock halogen bulbs. Just make sure when you install the new bulbs, you don't touch the glass part of the bulb with your bare fingers as it could shorten the life of the bulb. Use clean protective rubber gloves.
Last I checked, the Silverstar's life expectancy rating was a mere 10% of a typical OEM bulb. And a direct quote from Sylvania: "We estimate the SilverStar halogen lights to have a life span of up to one year under average driving conditions."
I have the SilverStars and they're still going strong after about a year and a half, but I've read plenty of reports of them lasting only a year or two for others. Longevity may also depend on whether you use them as DRLs as well. I got them on sale for $20 for the pair, but don't think I'll ever buy them again.

Originally posted by flipside909 What's great about Silverstars, light output is a very bright white unlike those aftermarket blue coated bulbs you see. Most companies will claim high K (Kelvin rating) or like HID color, but really, blue colored bulbs actually hinder illumniation in inclement weather despite the claims. The Sylvania Silverstars are proven bulbs and they do give a very clean bright white light.
Silverstars really aren't all that different. They also use a light-robbing blue coating to filter out a portion of the light spectrum for that "bright white" look. Sylvania itself states the Silverstar uses a "blue coating to help give the whiter light appearance." The blue absorption layer used on the Silverstar, however, is likely better than what is used on a lot of the aftermarket, lesser-name bulbs.
For best light output and visibility, the Sylvania XtraVisions (clear bulb) are stil the way to go. The Silverstars are Sylvania's profit-minded, over-driven, short-lived, blue-coated bulbs meant to appeal to those with a "whiter light must be better" mentality. With that said, I'm currently using a set of these myself.
