Smile HID Conversion kits

When you install a HID coversion kit on your car, will it look like the real deal. Or will I have that cheap look, like the blue ice bulbs you can pick up from the local auto parts store.

Thanks.

Hello Noob. It will look like the real deal since the GS headlights are made for HIDs

They will be almost as good as the real deal and is levels above the bulbs. These ARE HIDs. The only problem with them would be that they won't be in housings made for HIDs.

The GS has HIDs housings but it uses a different bulb than the conversion kits. The reflectors and shields in a GS HID housing will also help it with the cutoff. In halogen housings (since the light output is lower) the reflectors are made to maximize the light and form a cutoff with that light. The HIDs are much brighter so that the cutoff is overwhelmed . This is why many with HIDs will actually focus the beam lower to avoid this excessive light from shining into oncoming traffic.

Here is a pic of my car with a 6000k HID conversion kit in halogen housings:

yeah, in most cases the hid kits will look very close to what the oem hid give you, it's real hid so it looks good

the only thing is when you put the car together with one with oem hid, you will notice that the hid kits give you more glare and have more lights going everywhere. the oem hid has a very nice cutoff and all light goes to gnd

neo,

first time posting here on the CL board. I just bought a 04 GS3 and wondering which HID kit did you buy.
Also what suspension your car had with the L-tuned rims? The car has TDR grill and L-Tuned skirts already.

BTW, your gs looks gorgeous.

haha, the gs is for my wife and can't be too aggressive on suspension and wheel setup. got the l-tuned suspension already and should have wheels (volks gt-u most likely), TTE lip spoiler and deck spoiler sometime next year when uncle sam pays me back. can't wait...

As long as you go with a good conversion kit, you cann't go wrong. The only thing you won't have compared to the factory set up is auto leveling. In fact, I know some people that actually installed the factory HID headlight assembly (to convert from halogen to HID) and still didn't have auto leveling to function. Still looked good though.

I had the HID kit before. Looks good but got flash from time to time even I aimed down the low beam. Now, I have the full HID housing assembly and it works well even wthout auto level

and yup, i have the factory oem hid headlights now. no autoleveling, but honestly i can care less about that. i think that's more of a marketing thing anyway
