Default SC300 headlight guts

The inside of one of my headlight housings has a bunch of small particles inside that appear to be broken glass. I removed the housing and shook out what would come out. Definitely glass. None of my 3 bulbs were bad, so maybe this happened before I bought the car. So, I noticed that the internal eyeball lens for the low beam looks like maybe a bulb exploded and coated it with the same particles that are rattling around the rest of the housing. Can I remove the tube and eyeball for cleaning without taking the the housing apart? It looks possible but I don't want to break anything. The way it looks, if I take the 2 halves of the housing apart, I'll still only have access to the outside of the eyeball, not the inside where the problem is. And on the back side, there are metal reflectors and stuff that prevent direct access. Anyone know how to clean the inside of that eyeball?

Thanks,

sm9k

Default Low beam eyeball shredding at the edges

I ended up taking the housing apart. The glass eyeball has the edge broken off all the way around it. It seems to fit tight and the hold down ring seems to hold it tight. But obviously not, it must have rattled. It still will work, I plan to bed the edge in a bead of high temp silicone and put it back together.

I'll let you know how my eyeball salvage job goes. It should be fine with the silicone holding it tight.

Now I need to get some replies to my post about sticking the housing halves back together. It seems like these specialized forums don't get the viewership (and replies) of posts that we would have gotten on the same topics on the broader SC forum during the past couple of years. But I am following the rules.
