I am interested as well. The coating must apply to all RC and RC-F models since its care is noted in the user manual page 485 found with the link below and the text there does not restrict the topic to any color. We need some expert input on the details from Lexus to comment on all the open issues in this thread.

Bye the way, dont use firefox on the manual, the web page support does not work to follow links in the document. But IE does work. You can go to the to index pages and poke the page number of the subject to traverse to the correct page or page in another document.

Re self-restoring coat: page 458 of 684

I just emailed the key questions in this thread to Lexus Customer Satisfaction <Customer_Satisfaction_Inquiries@lexus.com>
In regards to your concern, we do advise that your contact your nearest Lexus dealership for* recommendations to self restoring the clear coat on an RC-F. * We here at Lexus Headquarters do not recommend the use of products for your vehicle. We would always recommend asking a Lexus technician at the Lexus dealership.
I tried the dealer and they dont know anything (sales and tech specialist) (e.g. )

The outstanding issues:
How thick is this Lexus coating?
Does it have to be processed cold since it heals with heat > 80deg?
What does one do when paint correction is required?
Are there any products or processes that should be avoided? User manual says Do not use wax that contains abrasives.

They just answered my email with one answer to my questions:
I can tell you that the coat is dry when released from the factory.
Sincerely,
David Rosen

[QUOTE=AndyL;8942513]Self-restoring clear coat has been available to Lexus since 2009/QUOTE]

The old 2009 info at this link:
http://toyotadriverseat.com/products/lexus/dr-nano-new-lexus-ls-clear-coat-can-actually-heal-itself.htm
shows the attached image and implies that the coat can recover 5um deep scratches. It shows max pressure values of 30MPa.
Bye the way:
6.9-27 MPa is 1000 to 4000 psi Water spray pressure used by pressure washers.
or
> 10 MPa is > 1500 psi Pressure exerted by a 45 kg woman wearing stiletto heels when a heel hits the floor.

I still can not find out what treatments one should or should not use on this coat.
Any pro detailers know about protection of this Lexus coating?
I will post on chemicalguys as well as autopia and see if any pros have suggestions and repost results.

Thanks to ISF001 for finding out that ALL RC-Fs have this coating.
He is getting some more info and I hope will post it.

I will endeavor to not let a 45kg woman with stiletto heels walk on my RC F.

Since this statement from LexCareSP contradicts the RC/RC-F manual, on 3/30 I sent LexCareSP a private message to followup and compare with AndyL's and ISF001's comments about the coat been on ALL RC/RC-Fs. As of 4/9/2015 no answer from LexCareSP or any LexCare**. (I am tracking the PM to LexCareSP and LexCare** but they dont read PMs).

ISF001 is waiting for details on the coating as well from his Lexus contact. (3/25 Lexus told him ALL have it)
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rc-...m-factory.html

Lexus Customer Sat (email me back) says they will ask Japan but it will take some time to get an answer. (email from them 4/1, so I am waiting)

FYI WARNING: I also see about 2 RC-F owners applied CQuartz Finest and even put it on before the XPEL. Caution: XPEL FAQ give the answer to this questions:
"Can/should Opticoat or cQuartz be applied to the car before the film is installed?"

We do NOT recommend applying sealants such as Opticoat or cQuartz to the parts of the car that will be covered with film. The low surface energy of paint sealant products such as these will cause adhesion problems both during installation and over the life of the product. In addition, it is worth noting that there is really no benefit to applying sealant to the paint before the film anyway, since the film will provide far more environmental protection to the paint than a sealant ever could.

FYI recommendation: I also contacted the CQuatz folk at CarPro:

Corey@CarPro-US.com Hi Rick, I am somewhat familiar with this coating. I would advise that for as long as it is self healing and doing as claimed I would use anything more than a product like CarPro Reload (a sealer not a coating). It is not a particularly easy surface to polish and in fact I expect Lexus would advise against any abrasive polish whatsoever but you would be best to consult them as results seem to be mixed.
The recommendations by Lexus do not imply an issue with using a coating like ours or a sealant. Either should be fine BUT I would first determine if the paint is working properly and self healing. If it is in new shape and is indeed acting as it should and as is advertised then I personally wouldn’t coat it. The coating on top could then be marred and that marring visible. I would in this case use something like Reload which is a water based sealant. If the self healing coat is not acting as advertised and is swirled or not in great condition then I would have an experienced detailer do a small test spot somewhere to see that they can indeed polish it to correct it and then coat it.
Hope this helps folks, it did me since I am planning XPEL on part of my RC-F.

I will edit this post with update when I get them.
