drilling GS300 trunk floor?
guys, i got so bored in the office as we are in a slow period till next quarter... anyways, ive been dreaming about upgrading stock subs since the day i bought my 98 GS300... now i have MTX 4250D that i want to palce in the trunk, passanger side under the carpet.. got inspired by GS3InPhx..
thinking of driling 2 holes to secure the amp on the trunk floor, is it a good idea? im just wondering if the gas tank is underneath... or even other stuff? im borrowng GS3' pictures here:
this is the trunk area im talking about, thats where im gonna put the amp... so any advise???

it's not a good idea to have the entire amp covered by a carpet the heat sink of the amp needs to have ventilation or the amp could shut down when it gets too hot

You've got some factory mounting points on the right side. So you can just fabricate some brackets to attach to those points and attach a thin piece of wood or ABS plastic to it, then mount the amp.
There is a flow through ventilation exhaust port right below that mounting location, so it won't be as hot as it could be under the carpet. When your AC fan is on, the amp will get some cooling. If the amp is a real HOT running type, of course there will be thermal shut down issues, especially if you play it LOUD. Throw a small fan under there and don't boom it for long periods and you'll probably be OK though.

Be careful when you start drilling, I have seen people go strait into their fuel lines. I would think you would have to try pretty hard to puncture the gas tank though... Just mount it on a piece of wood or plastic and throw a fan or two on it and you should be ok. www.selectproducts.com
well, ive measured the distance betweeen the amp and the carpet cover, its not possible to slide even 1/4" plywood between the amp and the trunk floor because it will make the amp touch the carpet...
sirsomo, are you saying theres a fuel line or gas tank under that area?
well, my last option would be using double sided tape... its ugly tho...

Trunk Mounting
Mounting the amplifier vertically will provide the best cooling of the amplifier.
Mounting the amplifier on the floor of the trunk will work but provides less cooling capability than
vertical mounting.
Mounting the amplifier upside down to the rear deck of the trunk will not provide proper cooling
and will severely affect the performance of the amplifier and is strongly not recommended.
Passenger Compartment Mounting
Mounting the amplifier in the passenger compartment will work as long as you provide a sufficient
amount of air for the amplifier to cool itself. If you are going to mount the amplifier under the seat
of the vehicle,or under a carpet you must have at least 1" (2.54cm) of air gap around the amplifier's heatsink.
Mounting the amplifier with less than 1" (2.54cm) of air gap around the amplifier's heatsink in the
passenger compartment will not provide proper cooling and will severely affect the performance of
the amplifier and is strongly not recommended.
