LB - The JL IBU4 is designed for use in a free-air configuration & the W0's use a sealed, ported or bandpass enclosure. If U don't want a box of any sort, the IB's are your best choice as they use the airspace in your trunk as the enclosure. Sonically, a sealed box is the most pleasing, IMO but U will lose trunk space. As Percy always asks, what are your system goals & music type? I'd stay away from the W0's as they don't handle much power or abuse - move up to the W1's or W3's but the W3's will definitely NEED an amp! On that note, just get a brand name multi-channel amp with a dedicated subwoofer channel. Again, if U just want a decent improvement in SQ, try an amp from Precision Power, Phoenix Gold, Orion or even Fosgate - something in the 5 channel style won't take up much room, either in the car or your budget. Might get a package deal on a JL sub/JL amp combo but I haven't heard the new JL amps so I can't vouch for them.

in reference to your question, my goal is simply to replace existing stock speakers/sub at a minimum mod and dent in my wallet. plus, i do not have the luxury of having trunk space taken away.

so, based on such factors, do i go for the ibu4, w1, w3, or w0s? if i stay with stock amp?

and if i have extra $$$ for a 5channel orion amp, which sub do i pick from the jl line?

do you know any good store/dealer? how is thezeb.com and autopile.com?

Will - Since space & $ are the #1 concerns, change to the IBU4. An amp upgrade has nothing to do with this choice as it's the only free-air sub on the list.
