Sorry for the stupid question, but what exactly does the alarm do in my '00 GS300? It doesn't have a siren? I just installed a lot of cash in stereo equipment and I'm wondering if the factory alarm is enough. I'm thinking its not, but not positive.
Has anyone had an aftermarket alarm installed, and if so, what do you recommend?
not much, aside from the transponder key, the factory alarm will sound the horn if someone opens the door without using the key to unlock the car. If you've invested some $$in stereo stuff, go the next step and get yourself a nice Clifford alarm. If you want to get crazy, do a search on Lo-Jack, and you'll find more info than you want to know on the virtues of Stolen Vehicle Tracking/Locator Units.
I'm moving this post to the lexus electronics forum. If you search there, you'll find a number of posts about aftermarket alarm recommendations (one very current thread is out there now).
IMO the GS OEM alarm is mostly worthless. A blinking light, and if someone tries to open a door by reaching through the window while it's armed the horn starts honking and lights flash. I think it also disables the starter.
