Default a 2ohm sub and a 4ohm amp?

Ok guys,
i am running a RF Punch 501S rated at:
125 W X 2 @ 4 Ohms RMS
250 W X 2 @ 2 Ohms RMS
500 W X 1 @ 4 Ohms Bridged RMS

my sub is a Kicker Solobaric 12L7
DVC 4ohm

i can only wire the sub to 2ohm or 8ohm......

rite now i have it wired to 2ohm, and my amp is pushing a 4ohm load..

can this cause a problem?
should i get a dvc 2ohm L7 and wire it to 4ohms?
help me out please i have until saturday to exchange them

You shouldn't have a problem. Most amps now days are designed to run down to 2ohms. They might run a little hotter at 2ohms. But the amp is also producing more watts/power at a 2ohm load.

Default 2ohms

when you already made the connection on that L7 to 2ohms the amp picks up on this ,unless you have a swicth for the 4ohms or 2ohms.but u will have no problems with this set up.

ok heres the deal...today the amp turned really really hot and cut off 3 times.
the amp gain is turned down all the way so i can break the sub in.

Would me wiring the L7 to 8ohm change the way it hits? also do i have to turn the gain up if running at 8ohms?

Hey guys, this might be totally off subject but I had some questions and just havent been able to find any help.
I was gonna just get a stronger amp for the sub in the back and also replace the sub with a better free-air sub back into the stock location.
I am totally clueless about which speaker to get and which amp to get. Does it matter if the subwoofer is made for open air or not??
which company makes a good free-air sub?

any recommendations are appreciated
...o yeah, what ohms is the entire Lex system (for a 92 sc400, non nak system)

By wiring it 8ohm you will in effect be getting approx half of the rated power out of your amp, or 250x1 RMS based on your previous numbers. From what I have heard, an L7 requires a lot of power, not sure if 250 will be enough. My advice is to try it out and see if it is acceptable to you, if not trade out for the 2ohm dvc and wire it 4ohm mono.

Personally I never run any standard amp 2ohm mono (something like a JL Audio "Slash" series amp is a different story however) , especially if the manufacturer has not stated it as 2ohm mono-capable. Check out the distortion ratings as you drop down to 2ohm, 1.5ohm etc. They get pretty darn high!

I am going to return the sub today and get a dvc 2ohm sub. The amp got really really hot and it scared the sh*t outta me.

Thanks

Most, but not all. I destroyed an Xtant amp that was not suitable for 2 ohms bridged by trying to push a small 10" 2ohm sub.
