i see people all day long looking at that ashtray thinking they can do something with it. aside of a few gauges theres nothing that really fits down there. the ashtray is at an angle, it goes strait into the floor board. unless your radio is 3.5 inches deep it isnt going there. then people speculate they will run it flat against the floor and the face will just not be flush...... for one, that's ugly. for two, it still can't be done because the airbag module is there. i agree there is little to no options on replacing the stock unit and still keeping it clean, but there is just no way around it when you go into considering the ashtray. unless you want to relocate the airbag module and jig out the tranny hull so it's a no go on the ashtray.
Panasonic is okay.. check around for better pricing. If i remember right the panasonic needs a lot of additional stuff like TV tuner etc.
Pioneer makes a nice affordable unit with plenty of features. I had a Kenwood unit, touch screen, dvd, tv tuner built in amp, crossover etc. Top of the Line but $2400, you can find this unit at discount sites and Ebay stores for around $1800 its the way to go in the long run i think, Next choice for me would be the Pioneer, then Alpine, then Panasonic and lastly Clarion.
The prices people say for $250 are not these type of units, they are talking about video monitors you add to headrests, which they still must buy dvd player $200-$250 Tuner $60 (some dvd players have them built in) FM modulator etc. and you are limited by the quality of your factory system. Units like the Panasonic, Kenwood etc. is what you call "Doing it right"
You will need a custom dash for this unit... if done right will look much better than stock and definitely sound better.
Yup that is a very nice unit. They are discontinuing these units because they don't always play CD-R's. You can probably find it cheaper with a shop that has it left in stock. The panasonic is the best quality for DVD but for options not that cool. I also have the KVT-911DVD and it is cool but the quality lacks a little. Iam going to sell mine and upgrade to the Pioneer Premier unit. It is awesome but a little more money. If you don't play a lot of CD-R's and want good quality the panasonic is very nice. Make sure when you buy it the processor is included. Hope this helps.
