Shot across the bow
Lexus has regularly said that their proprietary audio / nav systems are 'better for their customers' than the smartphone interfaces provided by Apple's Air Play or Android Auto.
As usual, the market will determine whether paying $1600 or more for a minimal functionality factory GPS system is 'better' than simply hooking up your smart phone and using the vehicle's display and audio system. And my bet is that it won't take long to find out.

"The 2016 Accord will be Honda’s first vehicle that comes equipped with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which connect driver smartphones with vehicle dashboard interfaces and potentially reduce driver distraction. General Motors said in May that it would roll out the technology on all Chevrolet 2016 models. "

Consider that there are still vast areas of the U.S. where Internet based audio and navigation do not function. Not everyone lives or drives in high density areas where there is 3G, let alone 4G or LTE, cell phone service.
