Default JL 10IB4 ?'s

I've recently purchased a 97 SC400 and have wanted to swap out the stock sub for the JL 10IB4. I went ahead and removed the original sub bracket (thereby destroying the other sub as I had to cut it out to get the bracket) and went to put the new JL in my car and it sounded washed out or like there was not enough juice going to it. My question is has anyone just changed out the stock sub w/o changing the amp or anything else. I have the nackamichi premium sound system and the old sub was rated at 5 ohms. The new JL is 8 ohms. Does anyone know what the power output would be off of the stock sub amp to the new sub? I'm no good with ohms but I read in one thread that the stock amp was like 45 watts by 1 ohm which doesn't make any sense to me if the old sub was 5 ohms. Also is there is a way to just replace the sub amp with say a JL 250/1? I really don't want to go down the path of changing out the headunit/speakers yet as I just got the car but I'm definitely looking for a little more bass w/o sacrificing my trunk space. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place as I cannot go back to my original sub but the new one sounds horrible so if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it greatly.
