what do i need??
hello everyone.
Im about to install a jbl 600.1 with a 12" alpine type r into my sc300. Its gonna be pushing 600watts rms, coz im going to run the speaker at 2 ohms. Im gonna get a 1 farad cap. Should the cap be enough? will the stock alternator and batter be ok? thanks guys

AZN Lex,
Stock altenator can handle a 600.1. 1 farad cap may help provide the amp with more power but doesn't create power and therefore doesn't change the pull on the electrical system.
The question I have is WHERE are you mounting the sub. I hope you are not planning on the back deck.

thanks for the info. I gonna build a box that will sit on the left side of the trunk. I've seen some post where some guys have a custom fiberglass box that sits there and so i assume that it will sound ok there.
Retro,
I know you are joking, at least I hope so. The back deck would imply that you are using an infinite baffle woofer or trying to seal off the ENTIRE trunk for a 10 sq foot sub enclosure. Both options have a lot to be desired in true quality. I like the idea of the back deck to keep things clean, tradeoff is bad sound quality. I like Percy's idea of the side mount to minimize trunk space loss, but I need the width for my golf clubs etc. And I wanted more air space. My option was to sink the subs into the spare tire well using a fiberglass/MDF enclosure that still allowed for the spare to be fitted upright in case of long drives.

Bad sound quality? No man, that all depends on the woofer and it's specs. My previous install has 2x12's hanging from the rear deck and the lowest I got from the toughest judge on my bass SQ was 9 out of 10! Subs with low Qts value would work the best. that includes Focal, IDMAX, Illusion Audio and quite a few others.
When putting the sub on the rear deck, you are not trying to seal up the trunk to make it a box but you are trying to seaprate the front of the sub from it's back so the waves would not cancel each other out. The problem with IB is the loss of SPL. while you gain balance and wide frequency range, you loose a lot of loudness comparing to your regular sealed/ported boxes.

Retro,
We are talking about an SC here....not your LS. The SC has several SEVERE obstacles to use of the rear deck as a subwoofer mounting location. I think most people will not argue that a sealed enclosure will sound cleaner than most any IB setup. That is all I am saying. If you can find an IB 12" woofer that can fit in the back deck of an SC without hitting the gas tank, or require weakening the structure of the back deck while STILL producing clean solid audiophile bass, then post some pics. People in the SC forum have been waiting a long time to see this. Me included.

I have decided to go with IB setup after doing some serious auditioning beforehand. I came to find out that one of the most good sounding subwoofer setups I've ever heard was 10" focal in rear deck. Clean, tight and precise. I got my system to sound as good but with a lot more output.
It's ok though, I also have many non-believers audition my car and totally change their opinion about IB setups.
