Question Sub question????

Hey Guys... I'm about to start my journey pretty soon with putting in my system.. Well, I got 3 10" Kicker L-7's and was going to try to squeeze them into that little cutout under the 10" factory sub is mounted. But my guy who's going to do the system says he needs more room becuase we're going to do pretty much the whole trunk fiberglass.. But now since I don't have to squeeze the subs into that little space should I just go with 3 12'' L-7's??? What do you think?? Which way would be the best for sound??? Thanks...

Why would you need 3 L7's? It's a primarily an SPL sub that is loud and not particulary accurate in the first place. Are you going to compete?

Retro, I know what your saying... But yeah come Spring time my Gs is going to hit every show possible.. I don't think I'm really going to much audio but as far as looking good I figured having 3 squares in the rear would look very nice.. If you have some pointers I'm always open to suggestions.. Thanks.. Oh, here is what I have planned to go in the car.. Well, most of it anyway...

Here is a quick run down.. Whole trunk custom fiberglass painted the color of my car with some plexi, 3 Kicker L7's I have 10's right now but might switch them for 12's, 6 monitors including my Alpine IVA-C801 (2 widescreens in the visors, 2 6" in the headrests, and a 10" in the trunk), Video camera mounted in the trunk too, Alpine indash DVD, Alpine 6 disk CD changer, JL components in the doors which will be taken apart and custom molded, 3 Phoenix Gold Amps (1200.1, 500.4, 440.2), Phoenix Gold X-Station (X-over), Phoenix Gold EQ30 (30 band EQ), extra yellow top battery, and some other stuff... I been buying theses parts piece by piece so I'm almost ready.. It's the trunk that's costing the most (6 grand).. So that's the grunt of it...

Haha, come on man...6G?! You are joking right? Yes, I have had fiberglass installs before and yes, I understand how much this stuff costs, but for 6G you better be getting your panels wrapped in 24K gold! That price is rediculous, no matter HOW good this guy is. Anyways...I personally recommend IDMAX's (and I have seen retro recommend the same), two 12" MAX's would be sweet! I've got one 12" that I am going to run ported once I get around to building the box and such. But please, for ****'s sake, don't shell out 6G! I have heard outrageous price quotes before, but that might take the cake.

IDMAX is good, W7 is good...L7's are all SPL and not much quality. While it all depends on your install you would be much better off with something that is loud and at the same time a pleasure to listen to. Also depending on the quality of the install, 6g's can be too much or too little. You need to appraise it yourself if they install they are going to do worth it. Or you can get someone who knows audio and prices well and ask him do an appraisal.

The JL Audio W7 is not cost efficient. An Adire Brahma will provide equal (if not better) performance for half the cost. MrSypher, are you going for SQL (a mix between SPL and SQ)?

Also check with Beyond Audio Inhumans. They are excellent SQL subs' through my experience. They are serious SPL competitors with a taste of SQ. Same goes with the Resonant Engineering XXX's.

Here is an incomplete list of subs' (SQ, SQL - assuming you are not going for all out SPL):

SQ

0-250.00
Shiva Mark III – 125.00 SQ
Tempest – 150.00 SQ/SQL
Oz Mat 300L – 179.00 SQ
Alpine Type R SWR 12 – 120.00
Image Dynamics IDQ12 – 199.00
Infinity Kappa Perfect – 179.00

350-500.00
Brahma – 12” 369.00 SQ/SQL
Image Dynamics IDMAX 12” – 499.00

SQL

0-250.00
K Series - e12kd2 135.00 SQ/SQL
Shocker SS Series – 140.00 SQL
SE Series 12” – 130.00 SQ/SQL
Blueprint 1203 – 220.00 SQ/SQL
MMATS Pro 12” 210.00 SQL/SPL
MMATS 12” 109.00 SQ/SQL
TS12.4 $149.95 SQ/SQL
12" X-ONE SQL/SPL 200.00
Oz Vec SQ 12 – 250.00 SQL/SPL
2012a - $169.95 SQL

250-350.00
RE HC Series 12” – 360.00 SQL/SPL
MMATS ProCast 12” – 274.00 SQL/SPL
SS12.22 $299.95 SQL/SPL

Default sound system help

If i were you, if you really want to win in the show's i would get two kicker l7's and custom trunk. With mbquart speakers inside. My friend has a 0 gs400 and did this to his car, i have never heard a cleaner soundsystem in my life. It costed him 4000 total, including 4 tv's and a ps2

You see that's cheap.... I wish I could find a spot that could to great custom work for a great price... Right now I'm going to hold off on the system because my car goes down to SRT in March and I'm going to get a Stage 4 turbo with some extras.. I might just throw in a box with 2 of my L7's and a Fosgate 800.1 for now.. Thanks guys for the help.. When it's time for the real system to go in I'll be back...
