Line out?
guys just go to your local lexus dealer and ask for the wire diagram for your car. and look up the amp signal. use the signal after the amp.
lee, Go to the lexus dealer on PCH. they are great. it free everywhere. so just go ask.

If we were to use the signal after the amp, then we could just cut at the sub.
I'd like the line out from the HU, as I don't want to end up amplifying existing distortion...besides, finding an LOC that can handle the watts of the sub might be difficult.
I'd rather just buy a line driver if necessary.
I'll check the dealer for the wire diagram. Thanks,
Tim

You wouldn't want to run your LOC at the headunit. reason being is becaus you will have to run longer RCA wire from front of the car to the back. trust me i tried it and it didn't work. you have to take it after amp. the signal before the amp is too weak. Also don't take the signal from the sub. just cut the wire for the sub and remove it. take the signal from 1 left speaker and 1 right speaker so you have stereo thats what i did.

No no,
You have to use the lineout from the headunit into the input on your amp. That's what your amp is for, tio amplify the signal from the source headunit.
Currently my setup has the output from the stock amp running into my amp which is powering my subs. This is very, well, not good and brings tons of distortion. I have to have my amp turned down all the time. I'm running the stock amp into another amp.
Easy way is just to change your headunit, you get a cleaner sound, more power, and real RCA jakcs to connect to your amp.

Here's the story folks, it has been written up many times here in the posts, but I'll basically capture it here:
IF you have the stock PIONEER headunit with CD changer, you cannot EASILY use the preamp outputs of the headunit, because both the headunit and the CD player provide inputs to the factory amp. The CD vs radio/tape switching is actually done in the amp, not the headunit, and why they chose to do this is beyond me, it makes all of the aftermarket stuff unnecessarily difficult. You thus need a switching unit if you are going to take and use the preamp signals. It's not about the distortion in this case, it's about it being very ugly to implement. You always want to take the preamp signals if possible, not the post-amp signals, but in this case we can all thank Lexus for being insane.
The way most people have added bass to this system is to take the subwoofer feed to the woofer itself and add a line level converter (LLC) to it, to take the speaker-level signal back down to a level that a regular line input is happy with. The output of the LLC is fed directly to your aftermarket amp. A good LLC is mad by Audiolink, the Powerlink II, and is readily available from Crutchfield. This setup has apparently been very successful for those who have implemented it, i.e. acceptable distortion levels. No schematic is necessary to implement this, as the subwoofer connections are obvious.
Conversely, IF IF IF you have the Nakamichi headunit and CD changer, the line output from the headunit is directly usable. The CD vs radio/tape switching is done IN the headunit. You need to tap into the headunit's preamp output wires and run them into the inputs of the new amp(s) being added. Results are excellent, no LLC needed. See schematic.
It is generally not a problem to run preamp level signals from the front of the car to the rear, if you're using good quality cabling with good shielding, and you've taken care to treat the grounding/shielding properly. If you do not, you get garbage.
See Lexus schematics for the details.
Hope this helps.
