Default cigarette lighters gone bad

i have a 1990 Lexus LS 400.....just the other week i had a flat tire and i borrowed an air portable air compressor from one of my friends. for some reason while it was pumping air, the unit just stopped working. yesterday i tried to plug my car adapter for my phone, both the front and back cigarette lighters were not working ...so how should i remedy this problem? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Don't forget to check the fuse, it might have blown even if it doesn't look that way. Also, for safety reasons, I think there is an additional in-line fuse right behind the cig lighter. Remove the cig lighter and look for a melted wire. Since both went out at the same time it might just be the main fuse, though.

This happened on mine several times, due to metal thigns like screws and dimes falling into the cigarette lighter. This shorts it out.

Use a 15 amp fuse to replace it. The fusebox is located under the e-brake pedal. Remember though, the fuse for the cig lighter also controls the airbag and the security system.
