XM Radio Revisited

I want XM radio
I really want XM radio but am nervous of all the up front cost (install and unit). I know it is $10 now but what kind of guarantee do I have that it will stay that after it gets very popular? Who is XM radio's financial backer to make sure they will even stay in business? I don't see very many auto manufacturers offering it in stock cars which also makes me nervous. Does any body know anything that will reassure me?

I have XM in both my car (SC430) and in my wife's SUV. We both love it and can no longer lsiten to regular radio.
No guarantees in life as to pricing. XM is a public company that was about to run out of cash but has lined up new financing that should fund them through mid-2004, by which time they say they will be profitable. Strategic investors include: GM, Hughes/DirecTV, Honda and Clear Channel. GM offers XM as a factory installed option or standard on about half of their models (expanding to 75% in 2004). The 04 Acura RL and TL's will come with XM standard and the 04 Honda Accord's will have XM as a factory installed option. XM supposedly has deals in the works with Nissan/Infiniti and Toyota/Lexus as well, but nothing's been announced yet.
Xm had over 360,000 subscribers at year-end 2002 and is on track to have 1mm+ by year-end 2003. I think the service and company will make it and be around for quite some time.

Sirius is partnering with BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Chrysler, Infinity, and a few others. So far, it appears that XM is partnering with GM, Honda, and Nissan/Infiniti. XM is backed by GM, so this is no surprise. I would not be surprised if XM gets Toyota/Lexus due to Toyota's GM affiliation.
I think Sirius will be around for awhile if satellite radio, in general, develops enough subscribers to keep the business model viable. If not, both XM and Sirius will have problems.
