Weird behavior when disabling speed sensor to nav system
I just installed a relay to allow me to disable the SPD signal to the nav system on my '01 LS430. The idea is to allow a passenger to be able to access all nav functions even while the vehicle is moving.
It works, sort of. The problem is that if I leave SPD disabled too long (say more than a minute or 2), the system starts locking out the buttons again, just as if the SPD signal were working properly.
Apparently the system eventually sees this as a failure of the SPD sensor, so it starts basing it's vehicle in-motion decision on the GPS position signals instead of SPD.
I have seen several posts re disabling this SPD signal and haven't heard anyone mention this problem.
I may try feeding it a slow series of pulses when disabled, to mimic a vehicle moving at a few miles per hour, to see if this works any better.
