Just installed Vlad's Video-Nav I
I soldered all connections. I spliced into the short harness that comes out with the navigation ecu. On the shielded ground wire, I did not cut it in two, I just sliced it and pushed back the cover to expose the wire. This is the critical wire to have a good connection at. But you should really solder every wire (R,G,B,Sync, and Shielded Ground). The power wire isn't that big of a deal.

One more question, does anyone know how to cut off the lumination for the nav screen when in night mode? If you noticed, it gets dim when the lights are on, or when it is night time, and makes it harder to see, I did not go through all the options on the screen, but I dont think it is on there.
Well, I soldered the blue wires to the black wire with silver stripe before the white connector piece(between nav and white piece) and still go the same result, I am going to solder all the wires for a better connection and see if that helps. Can you verify that you connected yours to they black and silver wire?
One good thing though, I found out that my DVD player remote controls my GEX, so only one remote now!!

I have a few questions reguarding installation of the PBA-N1 (vlad-video) unit. I have 2002 GS430 with the nav system and definately want this unit but my vehicle is leased and I need to be able to restore it to original condition when the lease is over. My ultimate goal is to get a small (and cheap) computer in the trunk to hold some mp3s and play music videos, etc. Ideally i'd like to use the RGB output from a computer but composite video output has gotten better so I can live with it if I have to =].
What if any permenant modifications are needed to the nav system's wiring harness? I've read through this thread several times and I'm still not sure =[.
Where does the remote turn on signal and the power supply for the GEX-P7000TV and the PBA-N1 come from? Is there a suitable source already in the trunk or do i have to run them from somewhere else in the vehicle? (I would run power from the computer from somewhere else =])
Can the PBA-N1 be used without the GEX-P7000TV module as a easy means of switching between a car computer (using RGB output and the appropriate timings) and the factory nav system display? (I don't actually think so since as I understand it, the PBA-N1 loops the nav system signal through the GEX so it can overlay it's OSD on the signal and act as a source switcher/composite->rgb converter)
Lastly and kind of off topic, is there an alternative to using a RF modulator available? (maybe a way to break in between the stock CD changer and the factory audio system?)
Thanks for the help, maybe we can assemble some of these questions into a FAQ since vlad's website doesn't have one (*hint* *hint* if vlad still checks the forum).

1. Its going to require that you cut cables.
2. You can get an adapter (from www.autotoys.com) that lets you use your cd changer interface as an AUX input BUT you will no longer beable to use your cd changer (it doesn't support any kind of passthrough). I've also heard rumors that it doesn't even work very well.
If your car is leased then you are pretty much taking a pretty large risk. Yet another example of why leasing sucks.

Since it sounds like that autotoys adapter isn't exactly what I need, if moving the pins to a different connector is viable the only other modification to the car would be installing the RF modulator, the IR receiver and getting power to the trunk. Worst case scenario when it's time to turn the car in I could just cut off the wires and remove the pba-n1 from the trunk.
As far as leasing "sucking" I'm not going to debate in depth here. In my case leasing definately paid since I flip cars every three years or so, I wouldn't do major mods that would void the warranty anyway, when my lease is up the next generation of the GS should be on the market , I got a killer deal and the $25K I would have put down on the car up front is better invested elsewhere. That said for some people leasing can be a very bad idea and you really have to know how you're going to use your vehicle and you have to know what a good lease deal looks like (I know plenty of people with bad leases). It's definately not a good idea for all (maybe even most) people.
You do need to cut the wires, but I sincerely doubt that any dealer would bother looking at your navigation harness to see if it has been cut. Who would even think about doing that? I turned in my wifes leased Grand Cherokee last year and they didnt look at a single thing in that truck, nothing at all, except for mileage of course. it would not be hard to hide it even if they did check, which they wont. Just wrap the wires in black electrical tape and it will look stock. I have this in my car, its pretty easy to install. It probably woudnt have been to difficult for them to make this a plug and play system, but they didnt unfortunetly. I still say go for it!
Has anyone does this in an SC430? Also, I have a Pioneer in-dash DVD screen deck (screen folds out), with the avx-9000 "brain". Can you use the pioneer avx-9000 with video-nav instead of the GEX tv tuner? I suppose the screen deck couldn't be installed (very easily) in the sc430 (besides it wouldn't be very practical having the screen deck plus the nav-screen, kinda cool though); so without using it, the option is a dvd changer I guess and this would probably have to be installed in the truck?
Do you have both the Lexus navigaiton screen in your SC430 and the fold out Pioneer AVX-xxxx? Yes, the connectors on the AVM-P9000R are basically the same as GEX-P7000TV, so it could work. If using the video-navi adapter you wouldn't be able to use the AVX fold out screen. I have plans to integrate the AVM-P9000R with my Mark Levinson and navigation system. Not a simple task for sure!
Also for those interested in building your own Video-Navi adapter, it can be done with the information from this page... http://www.nwlink.com/~boom2/acura/

VideoNavi,
I don't even have the SC430 yet : ), I'm just working on my plan of attack right now. The AVX screen deck is in my tahoe right now. I just now found out about getting video to the nav. screens so I'm still trying to figure it all out. I don't think I would put the AVX screen deck in the SC430 because it would be too much trouble fitting it in somewhere, so I just want to use the nav. screen. But, yea... like you are saying you want to do... I want to integrate my 9000R with the navigation and stereo.
