I just bought a 1991 LS 400. Absolutely mint with 73,000 miles. I love the car, BUT...I hate the damn sound system!!!

I once had an Intergra GS-R, a piece of cake to upgrade the stock system. But the Lex is a nightmare. I'm sure many of you have encountered the same issue, so I'm looking for some help.

I want to put good speakers (Quarts, Focal, whatever) in the car with a good amp and upgrade the blown 8" sub. I want to keep my stock head unit (pioneer), but don't have a cd changer. I DON'T want to use am FM modulated changer (Why have good speakers when I'll be losing CD sound quality?). I haven't seen any pictures of an upgraded head unit in the LS 400, and it seems that no one offers a kit. What do I do? Can I buy a used OEM unit and changer? Has anyone done this that can share their experience?

I'd appreciate the help. I didn't think I was a newbie, but owning a Lexus makes me feel like one. Peace. -JBlaze

 

i know exactly what your going through.....i just finished last weekend installing a sys in my 91' LS.....i put in a headunit...front set of larger components and an amp for the fronts.......as for the cd changer it'd be a pain to get it to work w/ the stock HU.....u should just get a new HU and cd changer to match it....it would certainly make wiring your new sound sys and changer MUCH easier.....plus it could liven up the dash a lil' too.........
