Thumbs up RX300 DVD Navigation update released!

Hi everyone,

Just want to inform you guys that Lexus has finally released their latest DVD-based Navigation update for 2001 and 2002 RX300.

Here's the part number I got from my dealership:

8680712010

or

86271-47020

This update will finally update our obsolete navigation, also include some Canadian cities. I believe the cost is $600. However, if you own a 2002 RX300, you should talk to the sales manager at your dealership, have them cover all the costs, 'cause all 2002 RX300 should have included this update, as promised. I'm not paying a penny for this update, and it will be installed in about a wekk after it is delivered. My dealership has to order it first.

Cheers,
Hendry Leo

Default Update Included?

I have a 2002 RX300 whivh I bought on March 5. Should I ask the dealer for an update. Is it just a disk I put in the DVD player near the spare tire?
Thanks...

Yes, you just need to change the dvd disc with the new one. It depends if you want to get the update, personally I would. I bought the car early this year, thinking it would already have the latest update. So I demand an update.

If you feel satisfied with your current system, then it's your choice to update. However, if you want to update, you should talk to your sales manager at your Lexus dealership, and have them cover the costs for you. Lexus mis-represented publicly indicating that all 2002 Lexus (RX300 included) would already have the latest update, when that's un-true.

Does anyone know if this update also applies to the 2001 GS 430?

Can anyone point me to documents or more info about the "misrepresentation by lexus" concerning the nav update?

I bought mine in Jan2002, and want the new version... I am trying to get as much ammo as possible

Please post your success stories about getting the update for free :} Especially if you live in MA... I hate dealing with car dealers, so the less I have to fight, the better...

Thanks!

Here's my exchange with Lexus: Seven months have elapsed, and still my dealer is unable to tell me when it will be available.

"Recently you submitted a question to the Lexus Customer Satisfaction Department.

Subject:
Navigation System DVD Update

At 09/27/2001 03:31 PM we wrote -

Dear Mr. xxxxxxxx

Thank you for contacting Lexus Customer Satisfaction. The newest Navigation System update will be available this fall. At which point, you can contact your local Lexus dealer and have the update performed.

Your Question:
I purchased a 2001 Lexus GS 430 from Lexus of Ann Arbor (Michigan) in July of this year. The Navigation system DVD is version 2000.

Please tell me when an update will be available.

xxxxxxxxx"

Art,

First resource is your 2002 RX300 sales brochure, get one from your dealer and read carefully in the navigation describtion section.

Next, here are the links from Toyota/Lexus. Print them out if you want and show it to your sales mgr, and demand for free.

Well, received the so-called "latest & greatest" Navigation dvd update.

Turns out they actually sent me the exact same version as I already have -- the old one.

The Parts manager was shocked and could have sworn Lexus informed them the newest release is available. So he will once again try to get the right one for me. I'm trying to be optimistic here, so wait for one more week. Could have been a simple mistake of putting the old disc inside, so no big problem there.

Hope to see the actual newest release by next week.

My dealer Parts Manager contacted me yesterday & reported that the update is now available for my 2001 GS430 ... $495.00.

It's apparently now on order. I'll post here what happens.

You're welcome, Art...

read through the links, and you'll see how Lexus has mis-represented the public and consumers about their false claims...

I'll keep up to date with the updated nav... (crossing my fingers)...

hleo1, I'm a bit curious. Quoting your original thread:

"have them cover all the costs, 'cause all 2002 RX300 should have included this update, as promised"

My curisoisity is with the words, "as promised". Where did you see/hear this 'promise'? This will probably be the deciding factor in whether we have to pay for the update dvd or not.

I just bought my RX300 2/14/02! Customer Satifaction told me I have to call the dealer. I think this whole deal is potential crap because Lexus knew the update was coming out and said nothing..... leading us to tackle the issue individually.

Cust. Satisfaction told me the MSRP is $499.99

McDaddy,

Bioart had the same question as well.

I posted some online links earlier that I got directly from Toyota/Lexus Press releases and press conferences.

In those articles, Lexus publicly announced and claimed that "All" 2002 Lexus with navigation will have the latest technology, including features covering some major cities in Canada. Wrong! In fact, presently, Not "all" Lexus with Nav are equiped with that feature. Your sales brochure (at least for RX300) also stated that claim about it's Nav's capabilities. Now, if you print out those links, read through the part that details about the Nav features, bring it up to your sales manager, and ask them why car car is Not equiped with it already?
