daimond audio HELP!!!
ok first of all I was wondering what everyone thinks about the quality of these speakers. The reason Im asking is because I got a great deal on them, well the deal is I get the following:
2 sets of 61\2 component hex series speakers ( 8 in total including tweeters )
2 tdx series 12" subs
2 A/D/S amplefiers ( cant remmeber what kind )
2 equalizers ( I think they were also A/D/S but cannot remmember )
all the wiring for it including the RCA wires
all this is for $1500. I want your opinion on this and if anyone can get me a better setup for around the same price. Im also looking for a nice SQ setup.

The post 98' HEX speakers are atrocious. They have practically no midbass and even the silk tweets are WAY too harsh. As for the subs, I'm not familiar with the TDX series, but their MacDaddy subs were supposedly pretty badass. As for the amps and EQ's, a/d/s makes great products, but on a budget I would go with other companies for amps and no EQ's.
For $1500 (and you didn't mention needing a HU), I would get:
Mids: DD 6.5W's ($85 a piece on ddaudio.com)
Also look into SEAS, Vifa, Morel, plenty of others if you buy a prebuilt component set rather than a DIY setup...
Highs: ID CD1Pro MH ($280 on caraudiocrazy.com) if you have the room
Also look into (tweeters) Vifa, Scanspeak, SEAS, Morel
Amp for mids: Phoenix Gold XS 4600 (around $320, 300x2 bridged, but the DD's would be the only ones I listed able to handle the power)
Also look into Hifonics Z600, JBL 80.4, Phoenix Gold XS2500
Amps for tweets: too many to list, something around 80x2@4ohms, maybe more if you get 8ohm tweeters. The horns are 8 ohms but 40 watts is plenty enough for them.
Amp for sub: JBL 600.1 ($170 on BSless.com)
Again, too many other options would suffice, but try to keep it class D. I like JBL's amps because they put out a little over their rated power and are just too cheap to pass up.
Sub: Adire Brahma ($360 on adireaudio.com)
Also look into IDMAX, IDQ's, Adire Shivas, a/d/s, JL, DD, many more.

I actually liked the way the HEX series sounded and would rank them in the top 5 speakers. Dyn first for me, but it all depends on what your system goal is. SPL or SQ. If you're after more SPL then the HEX series isn't for you.

Biggie - I used the HEX 6.5" components in my first system & found them to be rather good for the price ( nice dispersion pattern & fairly warm sound ). Not much on the Motorsport series except for a basic upgrade. I tried the 6.5 drivers in the front doors for awhile but found them to be slightly lacking in midbass ( much as BaBa says ). I could have left them alone but in competition there's not a second chance so I went with my Focals & crossed them over as midbasses for the front stage. Unless U plan to compete I think the HEX components will serve U well but, as Percy & I always say - let YOUR ears be the judges!!

It won't excurt that far with 600 watts since in the video the sub is playing much below the tuning frequency (essentially freeair), but it will move. If you want added efficiency, just throw the sub in a 2.5ft^3 box. You'll get some extra SPL and some uber-yummy low/subsonic bass (Qtc= .55, probably a bit lower than any other setup you've heard, I think you'll enjoy the sound).
Go ahead and get the 1200.1 if you want, but realize that you're only going to gain 3db's while getting much closer to the limits of your electrical system.
-MeanGene, sure you weren't using the Eton made HEXes?

B - My youngest son is using the HEX's right now so when we tear things down ( that seems to be about every other week!!
) I'll check the numbers. May have to hook up with ya sometimes - just took a position with Shell so I'll be hanging around One Shell Square occasionally.
Biggie - Checked with a iamond rep & he says that the TDX subs R an improved version of their old MacDaddy subs ( built for SPL & not SQ ). However, they MSRP for over $800/each so if U can get all that equipment for $1500, jump on it!!
